I am trying to determine how many D500 cars were produced during each forwardlook year. Can you guys fill in the blanks:

1955: None produced
1956: 8255
1957: 18,500 (corrected) (all body styles)
1958: 7617 (corrected) (all body styles)
1959: ?
1960: ?
1961: ?

My numbers came from these previous threads:
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=17216&...
http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1497&p...

That was all I could find in the archives. Can some of you please fill in the production totals above. I know they might need to be estimates. Any other D501 or Super-D500 production numbers and estimates are also welcome.

Reading through your attachments I believe you have the 57 and 58 D500 production numbers reversed. The higher number is for 57 (18,500) and the lower number (7617) is the 58 total.

The number usually quoted for D-501 production is 101. The serial numbers of the cars themselves were not necessarily sequential, they apparently were built in small groups. I think, though, that the engine serial numbers were sequential starting with D501-1001 and ending presumably with D501-1101. The whereabouts of D501-1090 is known so I think it safe to say at least 90 were built. So until an engine surfaces with a serial number higher than 1101, the 101 production figure seems as good as any.

It probably is a good idea to break out the 501's and the Dash-one's, but you should include them in your production list. It would also be fun to attempt to put together a D-500 registry of all we could gather on the remaining D-500s! Unfortunately, I am not computer literate enough to know what is involved in creating an on-line interactive registry.
