In the dash on my '56 CRL, there is one round space that has a dummy plate in it.  I have the oil, fuel, amp, temp gauges in the dash, does anyone know what the extra space is for?  (Its to the right of the speedometer, a couple gauges down)  Was it a clock?  If so, does anyone have one for sale?

It is the clock space... My car has one of those delete plates, too.
You can see a couple of detailed interior pictures in my album.

Good luck finding one to stick in there... They're made of gold when it comes to $$$$$.

Thanks Nathan, I thought so.  You've got a nice looking dash compared to the sun-baked one I have!

Jay---

Yes, it is for the clock. '55 and '56 Dodges had the same unit. I don't know how the 6/12 volt difference would affect it, but the '55 unit would fit right in. If I'm not mistaken I think I have an extra somewhere in my storage bin. I'll look for it and if so I'll be glad to let you have it for whatever you want to pay. It's just sitting there and would look good in your dash. I have a '56 CRL convert.----Fred

The gauge face looks for all the world like a '55 DeSoto clock. The DeSoto clock mounts in a housing on top of the dash, but it appears that the housing could be removed and the clock/chrome ring would slip right in. The gauge face/rim/color/style/etc. appear to be identical

Thanks Fred, let me know if you find one.  Though, I'm not sure I could give you a high price for it, I'm on a budget.  You might be able to get more from someone else.
