Each year, usually in or around December/January, I've been posting a chart showing the summary of where my records show that 1957 DeSotos "live". I always ask that if you're an owner of one, and can tell from the chart that you are not listed, please contact me. There are also folks who tell me they "know of" one that is not on the chart. I don't count the car unless I can actually prove it's existence by tying it to an owner or a definite location, so certainly some cars get missed. Enjoy!

Sorry, folks. I think I posted an OLDER version, which Rosy caught because it didn't list her car. Please use THIS ONE instead! Thanks, Rosy, for catching my goof!

Ed -

As a suggestion, is there a way that you can stripe every other row ? A spreadsheet like this is hard for many to read horizontally. Also, since not every one is familiar with what S25, S26, S26A, etc. designates, a key at the top of the sheet identifying which is a Firedome, Fireflite, etc would be helpful.

Ron, I took Ed's spreadsheet and updated it as you've asked.

57burb, Great job...That makes the sheet very easy to read and go through. Thanks for doing that! And thanks to Ed for gathering all the info and assembling the sheet!

Thanks, Danny and Ron. The alternate line highlighting DOES help to make it more readable. I didn't specify the official model name along with the "S25, S26, etc" because I thought the only people interested in this file would be DeSotophiles, who would know the designations. For some reason, when I tried to download your attached file, Danny, the file extension got lost, and my computer didn't know what to do with it. I "renamed the file" with ".xls" as the extension (as it shows in your note) and it worked fine. I'm saying that in the odd case that someone else has the same issue.

Ed, this car and trailer collector in Prospect, Kentucky has two '59's, both concours-level: a Fireflite wagon, and an Adventurer -

The Fireflite has a matching trailer.

Great job on the spreadsheet! I would love to see one for 57-58 Dodge Coronets! Interesting to note, next to Calif. which has the most 57's is Sweden. Gotta watch them Boy's they trying to corner the market LOL. John.

Ed - how much info you would need to prove the car's existence? Some 2-3 years ago, I and Juppee (forum member, username different) told VIN, license plate, owner's name and location of S-26 sedan in Finland. This car belongs to Juppee's friend. Still, the table shows empty in that point. I tried to ask this back then, but you didn't reply emails..

Thanks Ed for all the work you've done for the list.
But to have this as Excel-file instead of pdf-file (like Danny did) makes more handy.
Anyway, thanks

Spinout, I'm sorry my reply back to you last year didn't get to you. I answer EVERY 1957-DeSoto related email that I get. I do have the Finnish Fireflite sedan "in my database", thanks to you. What I do is maintain the database in Microsoft Access. I keep names, addresses, VIN, motor number, phone number, condition, sometimes colors, email addresses, name of saved pictures, and whatever else I know about a car there. THEN for the purposes of making an easy-to-read summary for you folks, plus to keep certain things private (not everyone wants to have the world know everything about him/her or a car), I manually take just the location and car model and put it into an Excel spreadsheet. That is apparently where I made the mistake of not transferring the Finnish Fireflite sedan. It will be in the next version, I assure you. Thank you for understanding.

Very interesting database. But to me the big surprise is not the 46 cars in Sweden, it is that there are only 15 cars in Canada,
versus 601 units in the U.S.

ED,    just let me know if any additional information is needed for this Finnish S-26 sedan? As "spinout" clarified it belongs to very good friend of mine (we even share same garage) so I can get any further info if needed.   Thanks

Thanks, Juppee! I have the VIN already. If you can get a picture of the car, I'd appreciate it. I'd love to have to motor number, too, but that's asking a lot, so it's not that important.

Hello Ed,   I´ll send you a picture when I´m back home (currently travelling). Engine has been changed a long ago and she is now running with 318 cid wide block. Probably you aren`t interested in the non-original engine number? Transmission is still original with push buttons.

PS: This Fireflite is very "famous" in Finland and you can find some pictures on my Fotki page.  Current picture will be sent as promised.  Direct link for Fotki album:  http://public.fotki.com/juppee/--desoto-parking-only---/desoto-fireflite-57/

Thanks, Juppee, and you are right -- if the engine is non-original, I am not interested in the number! I can save the pictures from your Fotki page, so no need to send any more.
