I just pulled the front passenger drum off my 55 royal and all was good but now i can't seem to get it to seat back onto the spindle correctly - is there some sort of trick to get it back on the taper?

There shouldnt be any trick. its pretty much standard for any front drum. Just make sure that one of the shoes isnt crooked or riding up on the backing plate preventing the drum from going all the way onto the spindle. What kind of problem are you having? inspect the bearings and make sure they look intact and squarely seated.

Did you put new shoes on? If so you may need to back of the adjustment.

yOU MAY ALSO WANT TO CHECK AND SEE IF SOMEONE MAY HAVE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL!!!! Check to see that both brake shoes at the innermost point in their travel. If you made no changes and the same drum is going back on the same spindle it came off of, it should slide right back on.

Thanks all, turns out it was just the wheel bearing not seating all the way into the drum - cleaned out the hole again and poof, she slid back on. The whole reason i pulled it was that the break was grabbing something fierce but it didn't look like either the top or bottom cylinder was leaking so - guess next weekend i'll take the drum down and get it checked for round. i'd leave it all apart but i park the mower in the corner in front of the car to give me a good excuse to start it up and move it as often as possible.

Are you starting the mower or the car as often as possible?
