Expert Posts: 1316 Location: Belgium, 40 miles south of Brussels | Hi, I'm searching for a power windows setup for my '58 Plymouth Belvedere 2-door hardtop. What I'm looking for are the specific window mechanisms and the electric motors. I will consider any offer.

I managed to find the cable harness and the regulators with a couple of motors from one member here, and then bought other parts and motors and renovated them. It took me since january to now, but finally it seems that I have all the neccesary parts. Bear in mind that the Chrysler Corporation cars did NOT have any pre-adaptations for the power-windows! That means that you need also information from other members of where you shall cut the holes for the cable ducts in the doors and the pillars. The cable harness passes under the carpet on the cowl and then through inner channels to the reardoors/ HT-windows. This information from Big-M John will let you know which regulators you may use; http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19498&... This is my thread with tips for renovation of gears and motors; http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19497&... Edited by wizard 2008-06-27 3:47 AM

Expert Posts: 1316 Location: Belgium, 40 miles south of Brussels | Thanks Sven for this info. I have the cable harnesses as I bought a electrical harness full set from that guy that reproduces them in Canada (his names eludes me for the moment). I was also looking for interchangeability info but found it in one of your posts. So I'm looking for any of these setups : Plymouth '57-'59 2-door HT Dodge '57-'59 2-door HT DeSoto '57-'59 2-door HT Chrysler'57-'59 2-door HT

Expert Posts: 1316 Location: Belgium, 40 miles south of Brussels | What is the most difficult part to find ? Right now, I have located a NOS set of 2 Autolite motors, 2 front and 2 rear mechanisms (for the Autolite setup). No regulators, though ... But are they harder to find than the motors and mechanisms ?

The regulators are the part with the "cross" linkage that you mount inside the door, while the reduction gear is mounted onto the regulator. The reduction gears broke often - both in the plastic gear and sometimes also the flanges that mounts the motor broke off. The repair kit for those came 1961 and is called; 1-PART NO. 2275 142 MECHANISM REPAIR PKG. (this kit will work on the 59 and 60 as well, so I presume that it could work also for 58???)

Expert Posts: 1316 Location: Belgium, 40 miles south of Brussels | Thanks for answering, Sven. As I wrote, I have located a NOS set of 2 Autolite motors, 2 front and 2 rear mechanisms (for the Autolite setup). By mechanisms, I mean the reduction gears mounted on the regulators. So my question was aimed at the actual regulators : are they hard to find ? Because if they're not then having found that NOS set is almost me getting there (except for those 2 motors missing).

Expert Posts: 1316 Location: Belgium, 40 miles south of Brussels | wizard - 2008-07-09 8:03 AM Go for it man - I wish you get it! Well I was all excited about it at first, but after checking my Mopar parts book, this '57 4-door hardtop setup has almost no part # in common with a '58 2-door hardtop setup. My interchange book is more blurry about it : it says all '57-'59 hardtop setup interchanges ... Regardless of 2-door or 4-door ? Strange. What I can say from my Mopar parts book is that the front doors parts from a '57 4-door hardtop interchange with the front doors parts on a '57 2-door hardtop. Same for the '58 setups, but they have all together different parts numbers from the '57 !!! I am doubtful about the fact that '58 setups are very different from a '57 setup ... Especially on the Plymouth. The seller told me that it was an Autolite setup, and gave me 1753233 and 1753234 as the motor part number (Though I cannot find 1753233 in my parts book). Can someone shed some light on this ?

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7809 Location: Williams California | Vincent, Mopar used either Delco or Autolite motors in both '57 and '58, depending on the plant location apparently. The regulators will not interchange between the Delco and Autolite units as well. The front door regulators from a 4-door model will interchange with those from a 2-door hardtop model, as long as you keep Autolite with Autolite, and Delco with Delco. The quarter window regulators for a 2-door hardtop are specific to that body style, and to my knowledge, Plymouth and Dodge only will interchange due to the window configuration, and the throw of the regulator arms. Confusing? you bet! I do have a set of window regulators with their respective motors, as well as a complete set of switches from a low mileage '57 Plymouth 2-door hardtop available as well. I was going to save them for my '57 Fury, but I've got enough projects. If you are interested, drop me a note. ---John
