On my '57 Dodge mayfair when I back the car up after a day or so of it sitting the rear brakes grab badly when in reverse. It also grabs a bit going forward but once I drive a little they are just fine. Can anyone suggest something.

Thanks

Al

I've noticed that Centerplane brakes when they're not operated on a daily basis tend to get "grabby". About the only thing I can suggest is to check the wheel cylinders for leakage and proper operation and make sure the brake shoes have no fluid on the surface. Adjustment needs to be on the mark too. For those who want to spend the money, converting to disc brakes, at least on the front, is a very worthwhile upgrade and should eliminate the grabbing.

With Chrysler's Total Contact (Total Crap) brakes, I have found that to be normal. My '61 New Yorker's are particularly bad when it is humid out. Best remedy? A disc brake conversion.
