Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | ..You a glutton for punishment, Matt, or do you have a good parts car available to you? BTW, here's some interesting trivia, on the 60 LeBarons: they did not have vinyl tops, back then, but, they-all SURE could have used one, as all of the LeBarons have welded-in C-pillar 'plugs', to accomodate the installation of the very-small back 'lights' (windows), and, the welding workmanship was TERRIBLE! They all have extremely unsightly raised weld-stitching trails, which no one at the factory ever seemed to have cared about, as far as having them be ground-down, and filled. Seemingly incredible, on a $6K luxury model, but true: all the LeBarons have that OEM welding scar on them, including this car.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 566 Location: Wichita, Kansas | Neil, unless it is a very fine original, you can see the seams for the back window panel on almost every old 60 Lebaron. The entire rear of the roof is a welded/lead seamed panel just grafted on to the back of a regular Imperial, and you can see the outline of the original back glass opening. Workmanship may have been terrible, but man I like those LeBarons. I have a 59 LeBaron SH, but the top is the same as the regular Imperials. It wasn't until 60 that they put the small back glass in them. It makes the car look even bigger. Glutton for punishment? Yes sir, bring it on!

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | ...LOL...not EVEN if the car is a "very fine original"; like you say, EVERY LeBaron has that fugly raised weld-stitching on it. A restorer could certainly be excused and permitted to fill-in the back window 'plugs', as any non-knowing observer would give him and the car considerable disrespect for effecting such "shoddy" restoration work. Matt, buddy; I'm ALL for you, or someone else, to tackle this car's restoration project---it just, will not be simple/easy/quick or cheap, to do! AND, I'm fairly certain that the contemporary 1960 LeBaron advertising showed that exposed-welding in the advertisements, too !----incredible. Edited by d500neil 2009-10-31 4:18 PM

The first one is a 2-page ad, which shows a retouched/highlighted image of a sedan, but, even with the retouching, if you look closely, you'll see the outline of the rear window plug, on the C pillar. The other photos were taken at the 1986 Fountain Hills (suburb of Ritzy-Scottdale, AZ) MoPar show, which featured 'this' lovely silver LeBaron sedan. It was there/then that I first learned about "all" of the 60 Lebarons having un-finished welds surrounding the back windows' fill-in 'plugs'. The last photo shows that car's immaculate interior.
