This was Richard Rowlands car, he's a member of this site, and he occasionally posts.

This is one incredible car. Of course, I'm a sucker for 6-61 Chrysler hardtops

I abseloutely love this car. What does anyone think about the $65k price tag. Far too rich for me but i am interested in whether this is correct in todays' market, you could get a $300G for same price (or maybe less)

I'd take a well equipped NY'er over a 300 any day of the week. The "less seen" factor makes them far
more interesting to me. Almost all 300's have the same interior, limited paint choices .... just a little too
predictable for me. That is why I sold my Adventurer in favor of a Fireflite.

Is it worth 65K ? How is it a new Lexus can cost this much and no one questions it ? Which one has real
substance ? You can find a Lexus on every street corner. Just try and find a super nice 61 NY'er coupe !
And which one will be just another overpriced Toyota the moment you drive it off the lot ?

We need to come out of our paradigm that these are just old beaters and see them as fine machines.

A wise buyer will get what he pays for. A fool will buy transient "flash".

Well,I agree that anyone spending 65k on a modern day jap-crap mobile should be horsewhipped in broad daylight...you're right, there is no substance or value, just more superficial status among the sheep.

I have never understood that "new is better" mentality...but remember just as they dont make cars like they used too, they dont make people the way the used to either.

The products of a culture reflect the mindset of the people during that time.

today 30+" ghetto rims that look like they belong on an old west stagecoach, tattoos on your arms, neck, back, and a drawer pull through your nose, fake stick on buick ventiports, stickers of skulls, truck hitch "balls",and 200,000 watt stereos blasting violent vulgar rap music,or that screaming like a wacko mental patient death metal music that can deafen those within a 2 block radius are seen as cool.
Yes,we've really advanced since the 1950's havent we?

Then you have the idiot brainwashed hippies who think they are saving the earth by driving sow bug shaped priuses or dainty little smart cars who want the v8 engine abolished and all cars to be made of recycled newspaper and hemp.

The cars we make reflect the mentality of the majority of people today.

You can take the same money it costs to buy a Lexus (if a Lexus costs 65k) and buy a nice 1958 Fury for that money and still have money left over to buy a nice original forward look 4 door sedan to use as a daily driver.

I want a time machine so I can get the F&%@ out of here!

What kind of a Forward Look car do you think could have been bought with the money someone put into this piece of s**t below?

At least with a $65K New Yorker you don't take a $30k hit as soon as you drive it away. It kills me how these so called "Rich" people don't so something smarter with their money than taking the depreciation hit you get with a new car. My daily driver is an off brand (domestic however) that cost some poor schmuck $52000 new back in 2000. I bought it with 60000 miles for 4 grand almost three years ago. It has lots of life left in it and runs and drives like new.

For years, I wanted a 300-F but they were always out of my reach for pricing. And since I've owned the 60 Saratoga, I have gotten to appreciate, like Brent says, that the " less seen" are more interesting. I've got the 300-F body styling with a more interesting color, and lots of options to boot. :-)

Hey, ... I like 300's as objets d'art just like the rest of the cars, but since day one people have known
the 300's were special and they survive at a huge rate greater than any other FL car because of it. Add
in the limited options and colors and at least I can come to not be as impressed by them as I would, say
another 58 Fireflite convertible. Afterall, I have probably seen 200+ C and D convertibles in the past 30
years. I have never set eyes on another 58 Fireflite convertible. The idea extrapolates across the board.
I'll bet I have seen no less than fifty 59 Dodge convertibles that I remember. To this day, I have never
seen a 56 Dodge ragtop in person !

They are ALL cool, but some, just by the numbers, are more interesting.

I just LOVE the raised block letters that read "C-H-R-Y-S-L-E-R" across the hood above the grille on a
300 C or D, but the lack of side sweep, standard tan leather, and general "Corvette Club" following these
cars have more than offsets the "plus" side of owning one for me. The 300 boys played me hard to "join
the club", but I wanted something *different*. When I saw the DeSoto I KNEW that was the car for me !

300's are great. The Desoto is "different".

Was this this '61 NYer the same one that was on "My Classic Car" once? Sure looks like it! Great car!

I don't like the 'Corvette club mentality' that Neil speaks of, but the core group in the 'eastern' 300 club who I have met don't have that mindset - that is, the founding/long-time members who are down-to-earth folks and bought their cars because they liked 'em - and got their 300s while they still cost less than a house - and still drive them frequently.

BTW, the 300 Club has only accounted for 172 300-C and 300-D that still exist worldwide since the club's formation in about 1971.

I've only seen two 1957 - 1958 - 1959 DeSoto convertibles of any model line up close. And they've both shown up on this list. They're rare & pretty neat.

The car might be "worth" $65K, based upon the beauty and detail/costs involved in its execution, but
its Fair Market Value, obviously (E.G.: oil paintings, stamps, etcetcetc...) is independent of the cost to
create the object, and is only what one or more interested persons are willing to pay for that item.

So, what do we have here?

A relatively unknown (to the buying public and to car 'collectors' [B.-J. auction] ) 1961 Chrysler, in a nice
but non-red[!] paint job, which doesn't have a lot of OH-Wow factor (except for us)...

At the B.-J., I can see this car getting bid up to about $40- 45K.

If I had the money, I doubt that I'd pay $65K for this car, and I do happen to love this car!
