For you regulars here, this is prolly old news for you as I bought this ride off of Jimmy a couple weeks ago. But it's new to me, and is gonna get a lot of attention once it ever stops snowing and decides to warm up a bit. A warning to all you "purists", please close your eyes

Way back in what is now the "dark ages", when I owned a 57 Fury, I had lakers on it (single outlet though) and would cruise down Colorado Blvd in Pasadena on the night BEFORE the Rose Parade with all the (other) cool rides, with the cut-outs open. Yes, it "growled" quite nicely, heh heh heh.

We all used to put on our OWN parade back in the late 50's. Can't do that anymore though....all the "crazies" out there ruined it for the rest of us.

Out here in the Iowa KornPatch, the local gestapos would bust ya in a minute for having loud pipes. The good-ol-days, really WERE the good old days.

Great looking car. The body looks nice and straight on it. One of the things I like best about it is the red roof vs. a white one.

Thanks for the kind words Donnie.  I didn't see any indications anywhere of any rust issues....then again I didn't do a "magnet test" either....the body could be full of bondo....still, I agree, it sure does LOOK good, though.

And I agree, a white top would most certainly have (in MY opinion, of course), cheapened the looks of the car.  Now, as I like to say, it is definitely a "second cousin" to Christine.

Take care.....

Well, Karl, you could always have cut-outs, on/for the Lakes Pipes.

I like the look of the car with them on it.

You know, with the cut-outs opened, after a short while the pipes would become blued; that, all by itself
would be bitchin, and you could leave the pipes un-capped (assuming that there not just full-dummies!) so,
even with the rear exhaust, the Lakers would look 'serious' , and not like a Poser (Chubbie).

Was it a red car, originally?

Do you have any pictures of that '57? I have a lot of pictures of customized cars from the late '50s to early '60s. Here is one painted by Larry Watson in the Long Beach/Lakewood/Downey/Bell area of CA.

Unfortunately, the only surviving pic I have of that Fury is one of the back end which shows the '57 BelAire gold "V" I put on the trunk lid, where I am towing a small trailer when I moved from Pasadena to Bakersfield.

Back then, a car was just a car to me and very few pics were ever taken "on purpose", other than those which were simply incidental to whatever I was doing with the car at the time.

My 57 Fury was essentially stock, except for '58 oval air cleaners in place of the 'loppy-eared" oem ones, the Chebbie "V" on the trunk-lid, also I had blacked out all the vertical "bars" on the grill so only the horizontal bars were visible, front end was lowered about and inch and a half,  exhaust had 30" glasspac mufflers up front and 12" reasonators in back for a really deeeep sound, and of course the functional chrome laker pipes.

The "good-ol-days" may not always have been all that "good", but they sure were a helluva lot of fun,  heh heh heh

I haven't checked into whether or not it is the original color. I suppose the numbers on the id plate should tell me...if I knew how to decode them.Regarding the side pipes discoloring with use. They were actually true exhaust piping on the Fury, which had some pretty heavy duty end-caps as well. Same size piping that the 57's used back then....and they were chromed, of course. Not like the thin-walled stuff that's on this Belvedere.

Sounds like a great car Are you going to do something similar with the Belvedere?

My word...talk about deja vu.....that pic even LOOKs like my Fury when I was stopped along the old Grapevine route when a humongous Pepsin wasp accidentally flew in the car (they are a really big black wasp about 3" long that hunts tarantulas).  I hit the binders with all I had and got outta there as soon as the car had stopped.

Except mine was a little lower in front, than the one in the pic...and the side pipes were not like that, (they were bigger diameter).

My Belvedere already has a 440 in it, and I am looking for a 2x4 manifold and carbs for it.  The trunk lid has been shaved and the external lock removed, so nothing going on there.  The exhaust has those Turbo mufflers on it now.....yes, they will definitely have to go....but I am not planning on making those lakers functional.  I could get by with glass pacs on the 318 motor...not sure how they would sound with the 440....might be too loud.

I've blacked out the vertical bars on the grill.  Already has had some wheel-well mods to allow the big Dayton wire knockoffs to fit.  Am considering the idea of installing rear fender skirts....but haven't made up my mind on that one yet.  Might make it look TOO funky, heh heh heh.

If it would EVER stop freaking snowing around here, I might actually get somethings done.
