Hi Guys,

Does anyone know about the 55 Dodge CRL Convertable at the Jim Gauthier Heritage Automotive Museum in Winnipeg, Canada? Is the suspension stock or altered? It looks lowered to me.

Thanks,

Ernie Baily

That is either very worn stock springs, or something has been intentionally modified to lower the car. It is certainly lower than stock.

That said, it has a perfect stance-

Absent the addition of lowering blocks on the rear and cutting the coiil springs in front, how can I make my '55 sit like that?

Earnie---The back end sure looks lowered----too much sitting? My '56 Dodge convertible sits like that in the front and maybe a couple of inches higher in the back. The car is a D500 and is supposed to sit lower; but I couldn't tell you the specs off-hand between '55 and '56, with the '56 D-500 thrown in. Smarter people here will give that info. What a beautiful color combination on that '55. Even the steering wheel reflects the color from the saddle down. I might need a paint job----Hm-m-m-m-----Fred

That car is great and so is yours "55crl" , When Chrysler photographed the FL car they strapped them and weighed them down so they looked lower and longer!

POSTED FOR NEIL D500
Well, this car does not have a standard 1955 Dodge
color, but, it appears to have something akin to a certain
1956 Dodge Custom-scheme!

As the 55's have been under-appreciated, of late,
here's some photos, from the Archives, showing a
couple-few 55 Dodges, and how they sit on their
chassis.

A cartoon from 1955 featuring Roy Rogers and the man from Dodge City.
This car is pictured as low as the Conv at the Jim Gauthier Heritage Automotive Museum.

...as are virtually all of the cars in the photos that Clive posted above here....thanks, Clive.

Advertising artwork , as John Samsen has pointed out, will always show a car to be as long and as low as possible.

...and it was the advertising that made the previous owner paint the rims pink instead of eggshell white.

..That is very-true, for the 57 Dodges, too!

They only came with Eggshell wheels, unless there were dog-dish hubcaps installed, but, the '57 advertising is replete
with multi-hued wheels on the various cars, so, it's open-season for the 57's to have 'painted' wheels.

Alas, none of the '58(+?) advertisements showed body-colored wheels in them.

The worst part of the Eggshell wheels is that they make the white walls look hugely-wide.

A collision pic of a pretty new car in another thread show clearly how the Dodge wheel was painted in 1956, center is black and outer rim is white.
