This is a 1959 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer D-500 with the very rare Super D package that includes a 383 engine with two 4 barrel cars rated at 345 horse power. This car is 100% original...paint, chrome, matching numbers...it is a true survivor. It has 35655 original miles and runs excellent. Some of the features it includes are as follows:

383 V-8 Motor with duel four barrel carbs
Push Button Automatic Transmission
Power Steering
Power Brakes
Duel Antennas
Swivel Seats
Continental Kit
Wheel Skirts
Clock
Original Build Sheets
There is some pitting in the trunk-no holes and very solid. Some of the chrome has minor pitting, but overall it is in nice shape. Original paint has minor crazing in some areas. The radio and fuel gauge do not work. Easy and minor fixes for a 51 year old car. It was purchased from an estate and believed to be a one owner. This piece would be a beautiful addition to any serious collectors garage.

Great car,but wish he'd lose the fender skirts and the diving board on the back!
Those things really spoil the sleek lines of the car.

This car is the real deal. It is an authentic Super D500 !!! This is the first one I've ever found. And I've been looking a long time. Check out the data plate below. Note the '4' in position 36. That's a Super D500.

Max, here's a car for you.

I've written to the seller asking him for some better views of the fuel
line and the pass-side exhaust manifold.

In Re: the fuel line, what you can see of it---note how hand-bent it looks;
NOTHING like the perfectly-formed-and-bent fuel lines that we
so commonly see, today, on the Fake/Clone/Tribute/Replica Super
D500's.

Let's me beat Neil to the Punch.
(1) What's up with the cross flags on the grill?
(2) What's up with the naked Lady on the Hood?
Does the paint code show an all white car, Ronbo? Thanks

Too late, Gary; yeah it's all-white with the "Neutral" (black/white) swivel seats.

It's got several option groups, undercoating, and was prepped at the factory for immediate
customer drive-away, at the dealership---somebody was in a hurry to DRIVE this thing.

The grille emblem is reminiscent of the Early Fart flat-headed V/8 cars.

Don't you have naked ladies residing on your car's hood, too?

I gotta beat em off with a stick--kinky, I know, but, there 'you' are....

BTW (haven't bothered to confirm this, on the P/T info, but) , the reason that the nekkid lady is
sitting there is because this car doesn't have the optional OEM hood ornament on it---so,
it's relatively EASY for her to be residing there.

Yes, XX1 indicates all white car.

Interesting to note that with all the options on this car, there's no hood ornament or quarter louvers. Does have five option groups (2, 4, 6, 7, 8), speed minder, rear speaker, swivel seats, sure-grip rear end, tinted glass.

Then someone did their best to uglify the car by adding the conny kit, grill emblem, nekkid lady on the hood and non-matching skirts. Sheesh !

Man-oh-man-oh-man....got a lot of documentation from the seller---told him that his Reserve should have been
at least $50k---dunno what it is, though-or, ain't tellin!

Fortunately, if this dope-deal plays out, this car will never suffer a 'renovation', but will be cleaned up and preserved
as-is.

This puppy even has its OEM coil still installed in it.

The fuel line looks to be as (crudely) hand-bent as does the fuel line on that 59 300E promo-photo that I had be posted on
some other thread around here, recently.

I hadn't realized this, but on the AFB's, the carb-number is cast into the base of the units.

And, this car has TWO Broadcast Sheets that were recovered from it.

One is the typical dashboard-masking taped guy, with handwritten notations on it, but the other one was not taped
down amd has no hand-writing on it----trying to confirm WHERE it was found, in the car.

Ron, this was a real-world car, and a real-world owner was proud of his ride and wanted to personalize it.

Remember, the 59's WERE 'flashier' than the earlier models.

Too bad that this car doesn't have the AIR-ride suspension on it (be still, my heart!!) too....

Perhaps surprisingly, this car was NOT Special-ordered, per se, and, it had RAYON (not nylon) tires on it, originally.

It does not have a HD suspension (that probably would have required a Special Order, anyway) but it DOES have the 3.31:1 Sure Grip diffie under it!

But, dayuum: Rayon tires!!---those were NOT speed rated; maybe that's why he went with the Connie-Kit: [ "The LO-Ri-Der don't go too fast, now"-War] .

One of 4,822 D500's built in 1959 - according to Jeffrey Godshall. I have never heard of any type of breakdown of Super D500's (yet). As an educated guess on the very conservative side, I would say less than half were Super D500's, making this one of no more than 2,400 cars across all body styles.

Just based on the condition, $50,000 is a lot of clams for this rig!

I respect Mr. Godshall, but, I have never seen any factory literature confirming the number of ANY years'
D500 production.

Beginning in 1958, the Corporate B-block engines were produced and the various/miscellaneous 361/383
engines(' stamping-numbers) were distributed among the various marques, so that it would be virtually
impossible to account for the D500 production based upon an observation of any 1958+'s D500's engine number.

Educated guesses might be made on the D500 production, based upon earlier years' production figures,
but I do not know of any factory records that might have been retained, after the Historical Society's record-purges
of the late 70's.

Also, Corporate Historical Society researcher Darrell Davis knows of no such D500 production numbers that might
have been retained or recovered, by anyone.

I think Godshall listed Chrysler Historical as the source for that particular tid-bit, but I have never seen a Chrysler publication with those numbers. When Bill W. lists the production figures, he uses those numbers for D500 production too.

Did you always get the quarter louvers if you ordered the hood ornament?
I've always wondered why so few of the '59s got the hood ornament.

also notice that the inside of the Dodge emblem on the front is shiny and not black.
See them both ways, but I seem to recall a thread that said black was correct?

Chad -

That looks like a low-option car. Did it have a 6 or V8 ? If it had a V8, did it have p/s or p/b ?

BTW, I may be in the minority, but I prefer the Coronet to the higher priced models.

@1960DesotoAdventurer - the hood ornament, quarter louvers and chrome underfins could all be ordered separately. My low optioned 59 Dodge parts car had all three. But my friend's CRL D500 convert had painted underfins, no quarter louvers and no hood ornament.

@1959Dodge - Yes, Dodge center emblem should have a black background.

I used to peddle parts and bought or parted MANY Forward Look cars as part of my business.
Naturally, the better optioned, upline, or performance cars were of greater interest due to the
demand for those parts, and accordingly, I was always looking for those cars above others. In
that pursuit I saw plenty of 59 D-500 cars ..... more 59's than all the other years put together,
in fact. If I had to pin a number on them, I would say 50-60 in all models and body types. In
all that time I NEVER so much as SAW a Super D-500 car, be it for parts or somebody's show car.
Methinks the ratio was VERY low.

I'm pretty sure the non-RB block engine was a low compression engine, 9 to 1 and only came with a 2 barrel carb. The one in the Dodge would be the same block that later became the 413-426 etc.

******************************************

Nothing lower in the marque scale than a Chrysler Windsor got the RB 383 in 1959 .... at least on paper !

Dodges were strictly a B-block outfit, however the moment I say this, someone is bound to cite some obscure
exception. But as it relates to this car, if it is an OEM original-to-the-car engine, I would bet solid money it is a
B-block.

Chad, that Coro has the Custom Coronet interior.

It is very pretty.

How much you or anyone pays for the car depends upon what 'you' intend to DO with the car.

It will continue to appreciate in value, if properly garaged.

It is so clean-looking, I'd hate to see an owner go nutz, and option-it-up like so many other 59's that are out
there...
