I've eventually got an engine for my 59 sport fury that i'm restoring.
I need help in identifying it. I've found some numbers on the side of block which are 2205712-5. Underneath that i think it is LS. And below that are numbers 7. 62.
The color of block is turquise. I dont know what else to say really. Hopefully someone can help.

Oh Oh

Wrong motor.  The color is a give away.  Where is the distributor?  Front or back?

the distributor is at the front. Will it still be ok to use? it is difficult to get hold of an engine over here.

i dont know what it had in before. I found a website (www.yearone.com) then followed info pages and they have a section on engine identification. Going with the numbers they say it is a 361cid big block. I believe that it is a 1962 361cid. hopefully it will be suitable for my car.

Let me look at the book and see what was original.  Chances was a poly 318.  If that is the case, then your trans WILL NOT mate to the 361.  And yes, the 361 was part of the big block family, I forgot to add it.

Now if you got a trans with it, then we have something to work with.  Then it's a matter of engine mounts.  The rest should just go right in.  There are minor considerations. . . shift cables and parking brake cables

2205712 is 361 block casting number used from 58 thru 66.

Thanks for all your help.
The engine came with auto box already attached so im ok there.
I think it did originally have a 318 cause i found an inlet manifold for that type of engine in the trunk.
The engine mounts shouldnt be much of a problem, hopefully. Asfor the other things brake and gear selector will they fit ok?

The trans should bolt right in. . I am not sure on the drive shaft length though.  You will have to pay close attention to the cables.  Shift cable length and parking brake cable design and length in particular.  There is an outfit called Imperial Industries that has the cables new and can make you custom shift cables if needed.  I had to get a shift cable 4" longer.  If you don't mind waiting for him. . . I was retrofitting a 62 trans into a 59 Chrysler

That's good that you got the trans with the engine.  Do yourself a favor and have the trans rebuilt before installing it.  I know it's extra money, but they are a bear to pull because they are so heavy.
