I have just recently acquired a 1961 Dodge Seneca 2dr sedan that is rough but I believe to be fairly rare as I have never seen on before. The car is black with evidence of white on the doors with holes in the roof which is leading me to believe that it was in law enforcement. The most interesting piece of paper I found in the car was an old A&W menu that mentioned that they "now have 9 locations to serve you" and "introducing the new Teen Burger", alas no broadcast sheet but I've never been lucky finding them anyway. I was also wondering on the original drive line, now long gone, it was a push button automatic but no clue as to the motor.
Serial # 5119108649
R-D-4-L-21
Body# 66
Paint 512
Trim RLA
Does any of this give the motor info?
I also picked up a 4dr parts cat with a 313 automatic and its paint code is XX not #'s
If any one can help it would be much appreciated
Thanks Jeff

Jeff, no, but if you post up a pic, or PM me with your car's Paint/Trim data plate, I'll take a gander at it.

You can search the car until the paint falls off and you will never find a broadcast sheet - the car was built in Canada -

5119108649
5 - Dodge Dart V8
1 - Seneca sedan
1 - 1961 model year
9 - Windsor, ON plant
108649 - 8,649th 1961 car off the Windsor line.

R-D-4-L-21
R - 1961
D - Dodge
4 - Dart V8
L - Seneca
21 - 2-door sedan

Body# 66
66th R-D-4-L-21 built

Paint 512
Non-alpha code = special paint code. Chrysler of Canada would have given this code to, and have record of, an exact special colour combination. If it was a police car, and it sounds like it was, that would explain the special code. (Studebaker of Canada did the same thing - the built record had the CIL paint code and colour name.)

Trim RLA
R - 1961
L - colour - ??
A - material / series / style

All my books are packed away for my move to Toronto. Due to the cost of the move, I am taking only my Chrysler stuff and putting the rest into storage. I will be coming back to Vancouver in three years so I will be not be paying to move everything twice. So I am doing this from memory - thus no trim code info.

As for the engine number, it was put only on the engine. A 313-cid V8 would have been RV-xxxx-C while a 361 would be RV-HP-xxxx-C. A slant six was R-xxxx-C. These engine codes were used on Plymouth and Dodge Dart models. Valiant was RX- (170) and Chrysler was RC1- (361) and RC2- (383).

The "XX" for the paint code on your parts is for Glacier White, the first "X" for the roof and the second for the body colour. It was a carryover colour from 1960.
