When I hit the brakes on my 59 at low speed it pulls to the left, at very low speed it will lock. Jacked it up and it spins freely almost a full rotation then grabs and stops...new shoes with about 1500 miles on them...any thoughts?

I know mine would lock and squeal in the front as I had the wrong spring and they were installed improperly. I had bought a new set of springs but they sent me rear springs that have an extra loop in them. This caused me to attach it to the loop on the upper lip of the shoe. If I recall correctly, the fronts attach to the little hole in the shoe and NOT the loop at the top.

There could be other things that cause this, but it may be worth a look.

lots of things can cause this, as mentioned, pull it apart and take a look, grease on the linings, leaking wheel cyl., improperly bonded shoes, had this on my 59, eventually chucked the shoes for a used set, never had another issue. Severely out of round drum preventing proper adjustment.

Locking is caused by the front edge of the show grabbing on the drum, file the top edge across at a 45 degree angle. Weak springs will also cause grabbing.
Try filing the shoe, if it still grabs then replace the springs. I had a rear drum doing the same, replaced the springs and everything is good now.

Almost certainly (usually, anyway) a leaking wheel cylinder; a wet lining will grab, initially.

Front drums just slip off; what do you see there?

If the lining(s) is/are contaminated, I'd suggest replacing them rather than trying to clean or de-grease them.

What I find works best is to remove the drum place it in the garden and grow flowers in it. Then replace it with a disc

Watch out . . . those weeds will grab, heat up, fade, lock up and WARP too.
