Elite Veteran Posts: 852 Location: Etters Pa | Looks almost as bad as the 60 Desoto I drug out of a field a few months ago where it had set untouched since 1977! Good news was I had it up and running in under 1/2 hour with only a half assed cleaning of the old points and oil change.I, spun it over a few dozen times to get the oil up thru the system, ran a fuel line from the fuel pump to a gas can and she fired after a few more revolotions. Gave it a full tune up and it runs excellent! Never even gave a puff of smoke out the remains of the ehhaust or the breathers. After about two weeks of starting it and letting it run the fuel pump gave up the ghost but I didn't expect it to even work to start with.. Good luck and good score!

Extreme Veteran Posts: 475 Location: Las Vegas, NV | Here's a link to some info on those great old Dodge DeSotos. If you don't see the article, scroll down. It's there. I bet you didn't know that the company started out as "Dodge De Soto" and later on became "Dodge Desoto" by merging all the syllables that made up its name. http://www.carpartswholesale.com/cpw/dodge~desoto~parts.html Wait a minute, shouldn't that be "Dodgedesoto?" It's got a nice ring to it. Edited by spider89119 2010-08-12 9:52 PM

It's got a nice ring to it. Even after reading this link I'm still confused. I always thought Dodge and DeSoto were different divisions of the Chrysler Corp...just like Plymouth, Chrysler and Imperial were different. It sure seems that way to me as Dodge had their Custom Royals. Lancers and Coronets etc and DeSoto had their Firedomes, Fireflites and Firesweeps etc...I've seen this "Dodge DeSoto" thing before but I just thought it was a product of people's ignorance...similar to how people call the the Plymouth Sport Fury "the Sports Fury"...you know what I mean? Can somebody please explain to me what's going on here? Was it Chrysler's intention that DeSoto's official name be "Dodge DeSoto" all the way from 29 through 61?...if so why are there Dodge cars at all?
