Location: Perth Australia | If you look at the thread i did on importing a car to australia, you will see that before you even start, you have at least a $5000.00 starting price, then the cost of the car, that one looks in good condition, so in the US how much would a car like that go for? If it was a comparative year Australian car in the condition that car is, I would say around $30-40.000. Then comes the cost of a R/H/D conversion, I dont think between $10-15000.00 is out of the question, Then comes the fun of licencing the car, normally just a percentage of COMPLETED car value plus licence fees, so I think maybe $2000.00, plus any engineering certificate costs (for brake and steering mods) I'll be nice and presume everything is perfect and surgest $500.00.
Probably forgot some stuff but that makes a conservative $47500.00. If yo go on the higher price for the car, then $57500.00. Then factor in the rareity value of not to many on the road, if anywhere else over here and I think its a pretty fair price.
Oh, and as for a convert, in this cars condition, I think $80000.00 plus.
I drove a tidy but un restored 60 caddy convert the other day and the owner said IF he sold it, he would be looking for $75000.00 plus
I would be very surprised if I get out of doing my car for any less than that.
Not counting the stuff I have ordered from BigM, so far I am at about $1000.00 in parts so far and for that, I have 1 fury badge, 4 door trim badges and a steering wheel. Costs a lot to do a car over here. There are no junk yards with these cars in them here, so everything just about has to be sourced off ebay or through links on forums like this.
Maybe if I made a living out of restoring US cars, I might have better contacts, but these take time and a bit of luck to find.
To me, that cars worth every cent.
Mick
