My code enforcement friends just sent me this photo of a 1961 Chrysler. They wanted me to identify it. Neat car. I thought it was a New Yorker based on the rear quarter trim.

Yes it is. I like the “home dealer” installed double mirror.

Mike, do you want me to work with your Code guys and haul it away? I could be there in a flash or at least talk to the owners before they are ticketed. It's probably only 15 mins from my house...

Not far away at all, John! This poor fella is going to have to clean up his act. I am afraid the neighbors are complaining. There is another guy with a bunch of cars that painted a car the exact shade of his neighbor's house and parks it in front of the neighbor's house

Oh Well, I could use that trunk lid for the 60 new yorker 4 door that Rick Clapham has. It is missing one. Theres one at Speedway auto, but we know that yard probably not open again. But a 2 door HT might be worth saving too!

It is shame that those that save true junk get caught up in the mix with those that
save cool and potentially valuable stuff. For some the line is non-existant between
the two, or at least very blurred. But old camper bodies and Japwagons, appliances
and mangled swingsets just ain't the same as a derelict 61 New Yorker, .. C'mon !!!

I am working with a couple folks that are comparing notes on wanting to live in a
gated community when their deployment is over. Are you kidding ? I'd rather eat my
own stool than sign up for a neighborhood Gestapo of meddlers and do-goods.

Of course, I understand WHY these places exist. It is because of the douchebag with the
35' cabin cruiser on a trailer, wrapped in blue tarps, in the driveway. The one that hasn't
seen water in 3 years. Gotta love that slub. To some, that boat and that NY'er are one
and the same brand of blight.

I would dig having a neighbor with a derelict car like this in his yard. It is funny how this
guy will draw the ire of neighbors, but the chump next door with the derelict 92 Mazda will
go unnoticed.

All he has to do is plate it.... and keep the tires aired up.... There are ways around that stuff.

Mike, you pegged it. I think all he needs to do is fill the tires and get rid of the jack underneath - and keep the plates up to date. If he does those things, he can let it sit out there til kingdom come.

Call me extreme if you like but I see absolutley nothing wrong with it staying right where it is, as is. A man's home, including his yard adn driveway is his castle and I am very tired of restrictive ordinances on this sort of thing. What if the car was his BEFORE any ordinances were passed? Ex Post Facto law!

If the neighbors have a problem they should befriend him [or her] and if he is unresponsive they can move:-))))))

OK,

Start churning out responses!

I always knew that a car has to be licensed and operable to be parked on the public street. Makes sense to me.

However, it was surprising to find out that a car parked in a legal parking space on private property has to be licensed and operable in some towns! Amazingly, if that's the way it is, the deck is stacked against the home owner. The old saying "you can't fight city hall" is very true sometimes.

Where I am, any inoperable or unlicensed cars must be parked inside. According to the code "it shall be unlawful for any person to store or keep any junk vehicle or parts thereof on any premises, or within any zoning district, or anywhere within the city unless in a fully enclosed structure."

Thats easy. Just provide proof that it is not junk! An appraisal from the right firm would do that! But as you and others pointed out have it running and tagged is easiest. They just want their money...Correction your money. It is all about revenues and uppity neighbors. Glad i don't have those.

all the bases are covered: "Junk vehicle means any self-propelled vehicle designed for highway travel under its own power which is not capable of such travel in its existing mechanical condition; or any dismantled, partially dismantled, discarded, wrecked, demolished, or partially demolished vehicle; or any vehicle designed for highway travel not bearing a current license plate or license certificate."

A flat tire is external evidence of incapability - junk vehicle by definition. No current license plate - junk vehicle by definition.

Many have tried to fight it, many have failed. As tough as municipalities can be, home owners associations can be much, much tougher!

<p>Tell the  home owners association where to "put it". People hinted the same respects to me , i told them to tell that punk a** person to come talk face to face to me----------------none showed their weasel d**k neck to me and becides my car is plated with a 1960 plate to which the DMV told me i could put the yr tag anywhere on the plate as long as #'s were clearly seen, so middle bottom is where its at -----------------------the same was said about adding on to the front of my garage . the deed say no , neighbors say no , but i talked to a city engineer , he said DO NOT go by the deed or what the neighbors want , go by what the city tells you , he even gave me a coded map of my subdivision and my town house . it affords me a garage extension all the way out to the street if i so desire . all has to be done is talk to the right people and things are straight from the legal people that are in the know------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------later</p><p> </p><p>Edited by moderator because Chuck really is an allright guy.I know we all have differing opinions of what is appropriate for the list! Hey Chuck we keep the coarser expletives off of the RML. Good to hear from you!</p><p>Slim <br /></p>
