Regular Posts: 62 Location: Home of the 500 | I have the body plate for my 1960 Fury Convert that was removed before I got the car. Can anyone tell me where it is to be mounted? The shop manual says it is: "The body number is stamped on a plate which is attached to the left side of the engine side of the dash." I can find no screw holes anyplace in the engine bay on the left side fender or firewall. I have seen a close up picture of one from a car for sale and it looks like it is bent over the edge of a body panel. Sorry to show my ignorance but someone indulge me.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | If its the one from that red convetable, i think it is on the radiator support panel otherwise the actual boby number plate is on the l/h A pillar not far up from the bottom. I have been looking into this a bit because my car is numberless. Someone has lost all the body ID

SO = 24 November Planned delivery date, Number = 244th (sequence number), Body 335= 2 door convert, trim and paint codes appear to be around the wrong way but trim = 124 red, Pnt= paint white roof- red main - red inset Part near the headlights. The "1124" is the scheduled build date - November 24, 1959. The shipping date was not known until the car actually left the assembly plant grounds. Paint codes were two letters followed by a number, with the exception of the convertible with three letters, the first being the convertible top. Thus. W - convertible top - white P - roof colour - Plum Red Metallic P - body colour - Plum Red Metallic Even though convertibles did not have a roof, Mopar paint codes still included it with the convertible's roof being the same as the body. For a "WP" code, a "2" at the end meant the roof was white and body red while "3" meant the same situation with the insert being white as well (Sportone). A "4" was different, with the "W" meaning a white car (roof and body) with "R" for red insert (Special Sportone). Back then the suffixes 3 and up varied from make to make, with Dodge using roof cantilever inserts, for example. Valiant Red is incorrect for a 1960 Plymouth as only Valiant offered Valiant Red. In 1960 both Valiant Red and Plum Red Metallic used the "P" code but the two colours were not offered on both car lines. Not confusing, really, when you consider the 1960 Valiant was not sold as a Plymouth but as a separate make. They were sold at Plymouth-DeSoto-Valiant dealers in the U.S. Also nice 1961 Chrysler wheel covers. The most surprising thing about the tag is that the car has no options - not one! I have seen U.S.-built 1960 Plymouths with the tag up on the firewall just below the windshield by the door posts as the front clip was removable on the C body. Which is why Chrysler put them on the firewall on the body and frame cars. Body 335 - 3 - Plymouth V8 3 - Fury 5 - convertible

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | Hi Bill My info came from the decoder on the 1960 Plymouth Home page. The only one I have found online. Do you have one that is different, if so, I would love to see it. There one does not mention colour codes with numbers at all only 3 letters.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | This car could well have several interesting OEM options on it, which merely do not happen to be confirmed ON the P/T plate. I do not 'speak' Plymouth P/T plate lingo, but, most-all P/T plates I've seen will show a Delivery Route code on it, and, there will typically be a code for the transmission type also appearing on the P/T plate. As seen and as mentioned, above, this car's P/T plate shows no codings on it, at all, and the P/T plate is significantly bent/folded-over---which, also, may be an unusual situation. If the car has been repainted, its P/T plate might also have been replaced (and folded-over). More questions, than answers, on this (red-) car.
