For a while now, I've looking for a nice sedan that I can use as a daily driver. Something that will fit three in the back seat, that is presentable and will get decent gas mileage. I came across this from Country Classic Cars and wanted to get some opinions on what a fair price is as the asking price is $7K.

http://countryclassiccars.com/cars/spcars/spcars_77.htm

Plymouth Belviedere sedan, 2 owner, all orig solid car, nice int, with new seat covers, 85,xxx miles, good running 6 cyl, 3 speed, well maintained, runs and drives good.

That's a very nice looking car.

Since you're asking opinions, personnaly, for the same kind of money (less, actually) and considering your needs, I'd go for Todd's '58 Regent. The fact that it's automatic and has power steering are two big plus' to me.... but maybe you didn't want another '58 Dodge after the hardtop you just sold?..

Anyway, that's just my opinion! I really have a soft spot for Todd's car! ;-)

Todd's Dodge is here:

Those are nice cars too, but I'm not sure the wagon or the '57 Dodge would get the "decent gas mileage" that Chris says he's looking for, though.

Realistically, what kind of fuel mileage can one expect from a flattie in a '56 Plymouth?

The V-8 in the wagon above surely gets fewer MPG than the flathead 6 cylinder - powered '56 Plymouth.

Todd's '58 Regent is great and the quirkiness of it is really interesting to me, although I wanted something other than a '57 - '58 Dodge. That '58 Plymouth wagon is really decent to, looks solid and has been for sale on their lot for quite a while. I figured with the '56 Belevedere I could get it for cheap and I like the idea of the 6 cylinder and manual trans. I was thinking of throwing them an offer of around $3500 for it and see what happens. Given the economy and time of year I might get lucky.

Reply to: sale-nxn8x-2082435890@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

F9or sale is a 1956 Dodge Coronet 2dr sedan (with post). Has a 6cyl/3spd trans and only 78K miles. Needs interior work but is not rusted out. Would make a good driver that you could work on while using it. Has a few minor scrape and dings. Was a radio delete car that had a radio put in but no antenna installed. Comes with extra trans, and radio and the delete plate and a drive shaft. Asking $6000 ot make an offer.

Robert,

Thanks for the leads! I've tried making contact with the owners of the Savoy and New Yorker. Hopefully I'll get a response from them.

Having owned a six cylinder '55 Plymouth for years myself I can almost guarantee you that the '56 is a car you will love. The flathead is a great engine with steam engine-like torque and the '55-'56 cars are "better" cars than the newer ones when it coms to build quality and so on.
But be aware that the flathead is a thirties design that was outdated even in '56. they are not very efficient and will certainly use at least the same amount of gas as a V8 in the same car.
My present FL has a 270 Poly and use less gas than the '55 did, both equipped with Powerflite.

As an update on the Belevedere, I emailed Country Classic Cars a few days ago but they never responded. Yesterday I called them asking a bunch of questions than requested some detailed pics. There answers were a bit vague however I expected that since they have several hundred cars on their lot. Anyway, I haven't seen any of the requested pics yet. Maybe tomorrow something will come through.

Good eye on spying that car in the background. The roofline is Chrysler or Desoto and the headlight brows looks like a '59.
