Extreme Veteran Posts: 475 Location: Las Vegas, NV | I wish the pic was better, but check out this 61 Newport Hearse on the imcdb site. Apparently, they really made these? http://imcdb.org/vehicle_52365-chrysler-newport-hearse-1961.html (61newporthearse.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 61newporthearse.jpg (54KB - 166 downloads)

Expert 5K+ Posts: 7207 Location: Victoria, BC, on Vancouver Island, Canada | Chrysler didn't build them, the Chrysler bodies were sent out to another coach-maker for conversion, not sure which company. A lot of air-porter type limos on Chrysler chassis were converted in those days as well.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 475 Location: Las Vegas, NV | I'm just surprised because I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a Chrysler Hearse before. It sure would be cool to cruise in one of those.

Location: Parts Unknown | Someone on the forum listed a 58 Windsor hearse for sale a while back. Others have been shown in photos occasionally. Not common, but a few survive.

Expert Posts: 3780 Location: NorCal | This pic has been around for awhile, the red light on top suggests it's an ambulance but a hearse would look much the same. (dodge59hearse.jpg) Attachments ---------------- dodge59hearse.jpg (16KB - 389 downloads)

Ironic, the word "Hearse" is for horse drawn. "Coach' is for motor powered Coach was also horse drawn, at least in the days before cars. The stage coach? Its successors were the railroad car for passengers and the passenger bus, all referred to as a coach. Basically a coach held a lot of people for transport. "Hearse" is derived from an old word for a harrow-shaped structure used to hold candles over a coffin.

Location: Parts Unknown | "Lorgvorgle" is an old word derived from a painful, gassy, intestinal backup, but has come to be referred to a red and swollen patch of skin in the nether regions, often accompanied by raised pustules. OK, ... I just made that up.
