There is now a '56 Chrysler New Yorker conv on Ebay from the John Scotti collection. I requested the cowl tag info. I know they were asking $26,500 recently. I'm interested, but can just imagine the resto cost.

They informed me that it is missing it's cowl tag. That makes it hard to prove it was an original pink/white car. With a red/white interior???

Well, the cloth material on the seats is NOS Mopar stuff but not 56 Chrysler material. It is 1961 Dodge Dart Phoenix material...........makes ya wonder.

Bidding is up to 20k$ now, with the reserve met, so the car will sell.

Scotti also put his 1957 Chrysler 300 up on eBay.

I have a 56 Windsor conv that was originally pink ( desert rose). A few things I noticed about this New Yorker is that the medallion between the grill shell and the hood ornament is a Windsor piece. The New Yorker had the word Chrysler spelled out in separate letters in this space. Missing on the front fenders, just in front of the door and below the thick trim piece, is a chrome script with the word New Yorker and below this was the New Yorker medallion. The outside mirrors are missing, along with the fan shroud. Perhaps the front clip was replaced with a Windsor clip at some point and a New Yorker grill, bumper and headlight bezels installed. As far as the paint, the pink colour currently on the body is not correct. The paint in the trunk and under the hood looks to be correct. Mine was all pink under the hood; firewall, inner fenders, rad support, hood latch, etc. This car has a black rad support, hood latch and one inner fender, plus a red valve cover on the driver's side. My opinion is that the car has been hit in the left front at some point. As Ian has stated, the interior is incorrect. Looks like a fairly solid car to restore, but at $20K, it's getting up there. It would be a fairly costly restoration to bring it back to original.

Would you say it could cost $75-100K for a good shop to restore properly?

If you just dropped it off at a reputable shop and didn't do any of the work yourself, it wouldn't take too long to get into a pretty significant amount of money. The car would pretty well need everything; ie. paint, chrome, interior, top, drivetrain, etc. It would be an awesone car when done, plus you'd have the only one at any shows or cruises. They only made 921 New Yorker converts and 1011 Windsors.

The firewall in this car appears pink, since that area requires a lot of work to change, I bet it was that color originally. It could easily cost $75K to have this car restored if your thinking frame-off, probably more depending on the shop.

Maybe the winning bidder found out they were biting off more than they could chew?
