Hi there
I'm looking for different rubber parts for the front axle of my Chrysli (1956 Chrysler New Yorker, compatible with the De Soto):
- Steering knuckle tie rod - seal end dust (1322 964), - 2 pieces
- sway bar - cushion std/heavy duty? (1639 167), - 2 pieces (these two pieces are for the center of the steering link, drag bar?)
- sway bar - retainer cushion (1313 961), - 2 pieces
- seal -Idler arm dust, upper (1556 305), - 1 pieces
- seal -Idler arm dust, lower (1535 115), - 2 pieces
(the numbers within the parentheses are the factory spare part numbers for De Soto and Chrysler cars, 1956 only)
The parts kit from Kanter is not complete (only the rubber parts for the upper, the lower arms and two tie rod ends /w seal cap are enclosed...)).
Please would you tell me where is the best source, where can I order all these parts at the same store (online preferred)?
Thank you very much.
Happy Motoring!
Dieter

Gary Goers in Montana hooked me up with those items. Not very expensive and quick to send. His catalog is complete with many different rubber parts. I will be ordering more from him in the future.

As another source for sway bar bushings and end link bushings, Take a look at the following on ebay. These worked well for my Plymouth's swaybar. Fpr around 81 US dollars is a good deal. Have not priced it with Gary Goers to see what he charges for the same.

Thanks a lot for your hint. The bidding time is already over. I doubt that 57, 58, ... sway bar bushings are interconnectable with the '56 bushings. The '56 was the last year with coil springs at the front end. Starting at '57 Chrysler used on all cars the Torsion Air ride system. I guess Chrysler redesigned the whole front end.
I bought a deluxe front end kit at Kanters (uuhhh very expensive) and my mechanic only used the rubber parts plus the rubber parts from Gary. Gary was very gracious and helpful and provided all parts I was looking for for an affordable price. The work has finished last week. If you don't mind look at the member rides section "New member 1956 Chrysler New Yorker".

Thanks a lot for your answer.
Happy Motoring!

Dieter, too bad you already ordered a catalog - I could have just sent you one via mail. Btw. How much customs etc. you have to pay in Switzerland? I'm located here at Swiss border - Lörrach, DE - if its cheaper for you - you can always order on my garage address.

We are looking similar parts (like Gary Goers) - I'm going to send Gary Goers order in next few days because I need similar bushings for my Dodge, rear side window seals and one big rubber plug for the right inner fender. I'm currently rebuilding my front-end and need all.

Are you in Facebook? I'm here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php?id=100002333824084

Cheers...!

I was again looking your pictures and one question came up? How did you manage to get MFK?? I know the Swiss testers won't accept any oil leaks! Is it really that hard for classic cars?

Hi Sisu
I just sent a friend request under my real name. The costs (custom) in Switzerland is depending on the shipper. Swiss post calculates either sFr. 18.- or sFr. 35.- for processing depending on the complexity of the business (the higher fee is usually for companies). Then add 8% for the MwSt to the total cost (price of the part or parts plus s&h). For car parts the Swiss custom takes an amount per kg (guess sFr. 35.- for every 100 kg). From Gary I only got the rubber parts for the sway bar - all other rubber parts my so called mechanic took from the deluxe front end kit I bought from Kanter. He disassembled the whole front axle to replace the rubber parts, but didn't mount the new parts (e.g. king pins and so on...).

Happy Motoring!

Yes it's really hard in Switzerland. At the Loerrach meeting I met a guy from South Germany who bought a Chebby in Switzerland. The MFK tried to force the seller to restore the whole brake system. The Swiss guy decided to sell. The new owner went to a check company ( like MFK, but in Germany). Everything was okay and he got the historic license plate.
Once I read about an owner of a classic car with small chips at the end of the front door. This guy used a fix it fast bottle with a brush to close the chips. The guy at the MFK wanted to drive the owner to buy a professional repair job for the chips (or the whole body) to not to loose the historic state. The owner decided to part his car out.

I put it to my so called mechanic. I spent tons of money to him for a decent work. He went to the MFK, few yards before he entered the MFK the new horn relay gave up (drowned). I guess he cleaned the area around the shifter cable at the PowerFlite. He used a hot water cleaner to clean the motor bay even though the rest of the underside of the car dry ice cleaning was applied.
He only told me (when I took my car over) to fix the sun visor at the drivers side and the horns.

Happy Motoring!

Dieter

picture: at the left hand side you'll see the sea of ATF - below is cooling fluid (heater control valve's leaking) and the black oil is from the canister oil filter - I didn't know that there is a shell /w nut and a stem (mounted into the base of the oil filter)...

By posting this pic I'm sure you will now soon be deported by your Swiss authorities

I've heard horrorstories about Swiss car check-ups aswell. How a carguy could live there is a mystery to me.
No amusing stories of people smacking or jamming an axle-shaft straight into some MFK'ers behind or something?

Now I know why all those old swiss cars look sooo nice

If you fix a paint chip with touch up paint, your car is no longer any
good and it has to be scrapped

I thought the licencing people here were bad

How about Germany, I'm now in court because my ex-landlord wants to earn some easy cash. He accuses that I have leaked oil in the parking area that was in front of my garage (firstly there never was any oil leaks and secondly I was not the only who parked there). He's looking around $10.000,- in compensation. Some weeks ago the local court ordered me to pay him $6000,- for other invented things. My ex-neighbour who also left that place has to dig around $15.000,- before the end of month. We have a same lawyer and she says this is the system and we have no chance as the judge was from the start against anything that runs on fuel.

Average prison time for murder in Germany is 17 years. I might have to sit that time because when I see the ex-landlord I will brutally kill him with my bare hands.

Germany, Switzerland etc. are countries with too many f..cking regulations. There are lot of people who are using the system for their advantage. Because one a**hole me and my ex-neighbour are now living tough times. First instance I get to leave Europe - I'm done here!

Why not splash some used oil under that landlord's own car once in while?
Or maybe you should have some guys from Romania or Poland ask how his wife and kids are these days...

the oil idea is a good one

use a squirt bottle though and squirt the engine

Then the pr*ck will have to pay someone to try to fix it

Its a great idea to squirt the car with oil - haha! For some reason all my ex-landlords had a Mercedes-Benz. I see such car and first I think is... A..HOLE!

As I live at the Swiss border I've imported several cars from there to Germany. All those cars were in excellent condition compared to similar age vehicles in Germany. At the local Tüv (vehicle inspection center) they love to see the detailed Swiss papers and usually they aren't even interested to thoroughly check the car since they trust the Swiss made sure the car is roadworthy. Also, what they manufacture is top class - I have Swiss made truck, snowcat and moped None leaks oil

In Switzerland you have no way to affect the MFK, but in German Tüv its called Vitamin B. You know someone working there and you'll pass the test. I know three such guys and if at least the brakes are working I pass the test every time.

You're right as long as it's on the road. In this case I would have to call the fire rescue to clean the road. In my case it's inside a barn with a concrete floor. I asked my land lord earlier on to paint the floor with a special concrete color (oil resistant). He denied...
I told him about the mess. He only said, "bring some cat box sand with you."
When I'll ever could mount the oil filter (I guess no chance at all if working from the top side and alone...) I'll mount the missing hoses and fill the engine with cooling fluid. Then I'll drive it out of the barn and I'll clean the floor with white spirit and rub the floor with soapy water (washing machine detergent).
Next to the barn lives a retired police officer... uh gosh. But - I'm sorry, it's away from the title subject...

Happy Motoring!

Ask them to deport you to the YuEssofAYE (or Canada; we all be friendly).

Gary G. is very easy to deal with, on shipping/billing; at least he used to be.

He knows that it is a small FWDLK/MoPar world and that bad players are short lived (metaphorically speaking); he'll
typically send a customer the requested parts and include the invoice with the shipped order.

In the past, Gary has been known to be slow to correspond with people or to fill orders, but, I don't know of any recent
complaints, here, regarding his service.
