L=1958
P=Plymouth
1=6 cyl.
The blank space after "1" indicates the car was built in Detroit

*60996=50996th car built

The rest of the numbers don't line up with my known coding.

No sixes in convertibles, only V8s.

Wouldnt Any Genuine Convertible Frame have the X Member anyway,

So his 59 Desoto is actually a 58 Plymouth Six Manual. and Non Convert.. Looks like he got Screwed

How is he able to provide the VIN and those other numbers with a base chassis ?

The Craigslist ad won't open anymore.

A 59 DeSoto convertible frame could look two ways .... the Dodge frame for a Firesweep or
the big frame for the other models. They are substantially different from each other in all aspects,
but both would be easily identifiable by the X-member in the center of the frame. Even if it was
a 58 Plymouth convertible chassis it would look like that.

As noted above, all convertibles were V-8.

As a side note, the Slant-Six did not come out until the 1960 model year, so a 58 would be the
old 230 six .... not sure if it had a nifty name (?)
