| I am trying to remove the steering jacket tube so that I can seperate the steering "column" and such in order to remove the power steering unit on a '59 Firedome. There is no firewall or dash left on the car and I have loosened the clamp at the base of the steering jacket where it meets the power steering unit, the steering wheel is off as is the horn ring. What else am I missing? Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you. |

Location: Netherlands | Can't you pull out the entire column and steeringhousing as one piece out through the engine bay? |

Location: Eastern Iowa | Once the steering wheel is off, you will find a snap ring (for the upper column bearing) down inside the tube you will have to remove so the jacket will slide up off the gear assly allowing access to the coupling and pin that holds the shaft to the gear assly.

| These things are usually good and stuck and hard to apply any kind of leverage. |

| Got it guys! The steering tube was stuck. I put a bar in the hole for the signal wires and tapped on it with a hammer, driving it away from the steering box. |
