Is it just me or does everyone overlook the 1960 models. It seems to me that everyone talks about the 57-59 years and there are just a few people talking about 1960. I am the proud owner of a disassembled 1960 Plymouth Fury 2dr hrdtp that I hope to have in one piece in the near future. What does everyone think?

The first models are always considered the most wanted it seems; The first fo the Forward Look was the 55's, while the 56's was a cosmetic update, the same goes for the 57's, with the 58's as the update.
Then we have the 59's, which was a single year body. Thereafter arrived the 60's as first body series.
Now which ones that are the most beautiful and wanted differs much from person to person, for instance the Dodge 59's are highly rated, while for instance the Chrysler 59's does not have the same "want factor"

Me, I really like the 60' models where we find great design and new concepts. Then, of course I'm "colored" as owner of a 60' Chrysler.
The 60' Fury is indeed a much wanted car, highly rated by many here.

I'm also a 1960 owner, again like Sven, in the above post, a 1960 Chrysler and I've liked the 1960 models for many years, having owned 1960 Dodges, a 1960 Chrysler and a 1960 DeSoto. Never had a 60 Plymouth though. One thing I would dis-agree with on Sven's statement above is the 59 Chrysler models....I really like them myself. And they are actually a cosmetic update of the 57-59 models, albeit a rather heavy facelift, they are still the same basic car as 57-59. But everyone has his own likes and dislikes, and they are all completely valid to each person :-)

I guess the same could be said for the '61s. For instance, how is it that the '61 DeSoto 2DHT is not through the roof in value? I guess rare doesn't always equate to desirable. Overall, I think most '60s are still more desirable to most over the '61s. Just not to me...

I think the 60 Chrysler and 60 DeSoto are beautiful. All of the FWLK years are awesome in the right configuration.

The '60 and '61 do not get the recognition that the earlier years get. The '60 Plymouth and Dodge also got the NEW motor that stayed in the Chrysler family till the mid 80's, the /6. I like both years and drive both years.

I own a 60 Fireflite and a 60 Fury Convertible. So I suppose I'm partial to the Dramatic Finned Look.
A 59 Adventurer could put a smile on my face...but who could afford one.

I vote for 1960. Had a new Fury in 60, drove all of the 60 models except for Des. Drove some real fast, 300F up to 135mph. 1960 gets my vote.

60's are cool cars. I prefer the 58 Plymouth over the 60, but a stripper foam green sedan
used to call out to me from an alley up on the north side. When I went up there to try and
bring it home, the owners had moved and taken their bevy of cars with them. I was forced
to go back to my search for a 58.

Just an opinion in context the 57s styling caught Detroit by surprise by 59 most had caught up by 60/1 Ford and GM were moving ahead setting the tone for 60s styling. Put a 61 Imperial next to a 61 Lincoln they are from different planets. Now all that said my favorite year is really 1960 then 1961. I think they are at the apex of Jet-Age Forwardlook styling. 1960 full size Dodges and Chryslers are amazing..moving to 1961 I'd pass on the Dodges but the slant eye Chryslers are Jetson crazy.

When I had my wrecking yard and was into these cars day and night, I had a dozen I considered keepers.
... and they kept me poor !
One day it just hit me that I wasn't Rockefeller, and I needed to be more discerning in what cars I kept,
filtered through a prism of quality of life vs. quantity of kick-ass cars.

So, I forced myself to be highly analytical of my own attractions and motivations, and this is how it fell out:

At the time I had a 58 Belvedere convertible project, a driver 60 Fireflite crossram/stick, a 56 CRL 2HT, a
58 Adventurer convertible project, a 58 Firedome 2HT driver, a 56 Adventurer driver, just to name a few.
It was hard to choose between stuff like this. REAL HARD !

But what it all finally boiled down to was I loved them all, and wielded the knife to a difficult favorite being
the 58 Fireflite convertible I had just acquired. The reasons were:

a. I like the body styling on this better than any other FL car (even if so many I like almost as much !)

b. I like the color sweeps, and after 58, they were greatly reduced or gone.

c. I like the interior fabrics of the earlier cars. My 60 DeSoto was great, but it was much more subdued
and less "Googie" than what was offered in the 59 and earlier cars.

I wish many of the later features were proper for the earlier cars. Sparkle steering wheels, Astro-dome
dashes, crossrams, floor shift manuals .... all these things I had to forego to whittle it down to one car (my
own personal limit I placed on myself).

In years since, I've gotten my act together a little better, and the stable has filled back up a bit. Not like it
was, but I have more cars than I need (who doesn't !), but I have stuck largely with my rationale of 1994, that
I only have so much income and so much time. I can't do it all. And though I like so many of them, I have to
limit my rose-colored thinking that I want them all and will live forever and have unlimited funding.

How come this reality thing keeps getting in the way of my grandiose plans ??? Dammit !!!

Personally, I think 1959 Sport Fury has a special outfit
Very cool with chrome buckles.
Owned one myself before with "standard" red and white, but also seen blue and white, was there any more color?
Most of FL convertible had vinyl with fabric choices. Something that the other GM and Ford had not?
I think it is tasteful

The 55 Dodge has been my favourite since late 70's and 30 years later I was able to realize my dream. Beside this my favourite design has always been the '60 New Yorker, from front end with the recessed grille and fins starting at the (front) doors to end with the awesome tail lights. Like the 55 Dodge every detail have a purpose adding to the whole design. Same goes for my favourite within the 2nd generation Forward Look, the clean lines of the 57 DeSoto are outstanding.

BUT what I love the most is the diversity of designs and preferences, each of us have our personal favourites and all together it's an amazing collection where you can find amazing details on every car.
For me to go to a meeting with nothing but 55-56 Dodges would be just boring. Only chubby owners would enjoy comparing number of options rather than see the beauty in all the different makes and marques joined together.

I myself think that 55 and 56 are very delicious taillights
Will look for short slide when my dad bought a 1955-56 (2dr ht dark metallic green and light green solit color) when he was in the U.S. on the west coast. Unfortunately he leave it in the harbor with key alarm in, when he went there from 1959 to Älvsnabben (warship training vessels from Sweden)

I love the 60 Plymouth. In fact, the first forward look car I fell in love with was a 60 Belvedere a friend of mine had back in the 80's.

60 was the best year for full-size Dodge styling in my opinion.

60-61 Chryslers are also great, but I actually prefer the 61 by a huge margin. The front end just looks so much better to me. I like how the fenders reverted back to being more like the 57 style, leaving the fins to stand on their own. And the slanted headlights look very cool.

So, no hating, everyone has their subjective tastes in things, but I think the 55-6 look like they are leading up to something. I think the 57 FL cars are the apex. I think 58s are wonderful but just 57s with different and sometimes unneeded jewelry, I think the 59s are showing their age and fumbling for their identity; I think the 60's have renewed vigor in terms of styling and engineering, and I think the 61s are hit or miss. I think the 61 Chrysler is one of the finest looking cars ever made. But there again, I love the 62 Chrysler, too, and that car was an accident and not really FL. Hard to argue with taste. My parents thought Chrysler products were trashy. They were not pleased when I rolled in in a 59 Plymouth. In any case, I love them all.
