It's gonna need some floor pans, from Big-M, here, but this car is very-doable, altho just about every
component on it will require some 'doing' to be done to it .

I’m proud to offer for sale my 1958 Dodge Custom Royal D500, a very rare car that would be an excellent restoration project. I am not a Dodge expert but have gathered some good info from the web and the Forward Look website. Please feel free to email me if you have any helpful info. This car has tremendous upside potential. I would be surprised if another D500 exists in this color and trim. You would definitely have the only one at any show. It costs just as much to restore a standard model as this one, why not start with something special.

I purchased the car with intention of restoring at least cosmetically but an opportunity has come up and I need some cash and some room. I bought it from the daughter of the second owner. I’m presently having the title transferred into my name.

Viewing is not a problem but is by appointment only. Also if you want to send someone to look at it I will make myself available.

The car is an early model with saddle trim, essentially 57 side trim that allowed the slightly unusual two tone paint scheme. The original colors are Sand Metallic over Beige. It almost has a bronze appearance, the beige has faded to an unfortunate shade of flesh.

The trim tag has been decoded as a true D500, single 4 barrel car. Included in the sale is a NORS set of tail light lenses with the correct back ups for the lower units.

BODY

The body is laser straight, it has a very slight bump over the headlight on the passenger side but it’s hardly noticeable. I have been over the entire car with a magnet and there is no bondo.

GLASS

The windshield has a crack but the rest of the glass is good and appears tinted.

STAINLESS

All stainless is very nice, a couple of minor bumps but nothing crushed nor gouged.

ENGINE

It has the original 361 wedge, first year for the wedge. It was professionally rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago but has not been driven in 20 plus years. The mechanic that rebuilt it didn’t care about color so it’s painter Ford blue. All that time it has been stored in a heated shop and was started periodically. I have not had it running but may try before the auction ends.

BRAKES

The car has no brakes but rolls easily. It’s missing the power brake booster but I have the master cylinder.

INTERIOR

The interior is intact but will probably need replacing. The vinyl has a bronze appearance and the inserts are mainly black with gold thread woven in. SMS auto fabrics reproduces the interior material. The headliner is partially removed but can be salvaged with some effort. I understand these are not reproduced. The visors are the same material, almost like a thin fiberboard. The door panels and rear panels are in very good and would be hard to reproduce with the foil inserts

HUBCAPS/WHEELS & TIRES

The car has a full set of 57/58 spinner hubcaps, the centers need to be painted black to be correct for 58. All tires hold air.

RUST

The only rust is in the passenger front floor and the backside of the trunk, both areas are pictured. There is some minor rust around the trunk gasket area on the left side and by the latch. The bottom of the trunk latch where it attaches to the floor is rusted. The floor section is around $65 and the trunk around $120, I have seen both on Ebay.

RESERVE AND PAYMENT

The reserve is under 10k. A $500 non refundable deposit is required within 24 hours by Paypal. The balance is due within 7 days. Once payment has cleared my bank the car can be removed. I can store it safely for up to a month as long as it’s paid in full. If you need longer we can work something out. I will help load.

Please bid with confidence, I have 100% positive feedback and have been buying and selling since 1998. I have sold many cars from my collection and have always had happy customers. International bidding is welcome. I have sent cars to England, Sweden, Australia and Canada.

Please email any questions or send me your number and a good time to call. Thanks and good luck bidding!! Neil

Looks nifty, especially now that it is all cleaned up! It is unusual to see the "Dodge" script and block letters in plated pot-metal on a Custom Royal. Typically, you would expect that these would be the gold annodized aluminum. This car looks to be very original in terms of trim and finish, so maybe some Custom Royal color schemes were paired with gold and some with chrome??? Doubt it! This one may have escaped the factory with the odd trim...

Mike, I've seen both chrome finish and gold finish "Dodge" nameplates; in fact, the very first one I ever saw, in 1981,
had a silver Dodge nameplate.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme/reason that I can deduce for their installation on one car or another.

This one's a Silver-guy.

Dual antennae, dual mirrors, hood ornaments, several Option Groups, but no optional bumper 'teeth',
and no power brakes.

Those teeth were an option on every Dodge model, in 1958; even on the Regal lancers.

This car would be a prime candidate to find a Broadcast Sheet behind the dash (think that its owner looked for it, there,
but found nothing), or, underneath the OEM carpeting (might still be found there).

The trunk is (typically-) mis-aligned, but the hood and door alignments look wonderful.
