I stumbled across this HT 59 Dodge Coronet a couple weeks ago and had a heck of a time finding the owner. After some phone calls and some internet searching I got a call back and I get to pick it up tomorrow. Very complete car that was parked in the mid 70's, Not the 58 Plymouth HT I was looking for but I couldn't stand to leave this one behind. Besides Look at the face on this car.. it looks angry and I LIKE IT!

Nothing wrong with a 4dr HT vs a 2dr HT. Ya gotta be excited to get a '59 Dodge. Did you find TOTO???

Thanks, No I didn't find Toto in the car but there was a dead possum under the car.. I really don't want to part this car because it is so complete, It does need floor pans and a trunk pan. Rockers and rear quarters. It came with two extra really nice fenders and new tail lights. I really don't know much about these cars so I would really like to talk to someone that has a few of these sitting around. Where the best place to find some of these parts and stuff. Might trade for a 57 58 Plymouth Hardtop.. For right now Im going to see if I can get the motor to turn over and tinker around with it.

They do look a little frowny from some angles. That's a nice looking car though.

That's a beautiful car! I need to find the factory colors from 59 I know it was 2 tone and green and would like to take it back to an almost original color.

I've got a 59 Coronet 4 dr that I am in the process of reworking/restoring. I have no plans for a frame off, all I want is a nice driver. This one is the red with white roof and fins, which I think is the best color combination for this car. I name all my cars, this one being red made me think "Red" to be a good name, then Red made me think of Christina Hendricks from the TV show "Mad Men", so I changed her name to Christina, in honor of those two beautiful eyes. The 59 Dodges do have a beautiful set of headlights. I have rust issues as well, which is to be expected, she came from up north. I am re-learning what body work skills I had as a teenager plus a whole lot of new ones. I am planning on leading in all the body work and hope I don't have to resort to bondo. My body lead stuff came in last Friday. By the time I cut out all the rust and put in new metal I should get proficient...yeah I have rust issues.
I have been told there aren't that many 59's around to get parts from, but the first source everyone told me is John at BigM Auto. He is super nice to deal with and usually can come up with what you need. I really do like what you have and I hope you keep her and fix her up, they are really one of the best looking forward look cars made.
I just took another look at your car. She does have a "Make my day" look about her. Don't smoke cigars in her, she may have a somewhat negative reaction to ashes being flipped in her.

Try Rock Auto and Kanter for body parts. Kanter also has a really good brake package as well.

Replied to your PM 59 hrdtop.

Can vouch for John at Big M, helped me out with the best trunk floor pan he had at the time and got it to my shipping agent in Longbeach CA for shipping to Australia, nice to deal with.

Other rust repair needs I'll either farm out the larger sections of fabrication needs to local sheetmetal/panelbeaters here and weld in myself or make them myself with whatever skills I have or can learn.

I'm fine with mechanical issues but an amateur when it comes to body work.

My home computer is on the blink and my work computer won't show your photobucket pics so I can't see them ATM but it sounds like your Dodge is/will be a nice one !!

I'll Pm you my parts sources as soon I find all those bits of paper I so professionally wrote them on !!!

I will send John a PM. Issue with that is shipping would be awful not that Australia wasn't pricey Im sure. Anybody have any recommendations as to where a good starting point is? This will be my first restoration and I really don't know where to start.

That depends on how you want to work on it. If you want to work on it bit-by-bit while you drive it, then get it running and reliable first. If you want to get it completed before you drive it, then it is generally best to tear it down and get it ready for paint first. This means you would start with body work & rust repair. But either way, you will probably need to prep the rusted top surfaces to prevent further damage. After sanding the rust down, an application of naval jelly will stop the rust from progressing. Then rinse well and primer it with a good rust preventative epoxy primer.

Thanks, with the motor being locked up tight I figure I will start with rust removal first. I actually just purchased a 57 Belvedere 4 dr HT tonight from Dorsey "Oldwood" and its in ALOT better shape than my 59 is. So I will retrieve it seeing how its already running and then I can take my time on the Dodge now.

Congratulations, 58hrdtop!

That is indeed, one of the BEST "get outta my way!" grilles of all time!

Enjoy this great car!
