Veteran Posts: 115 Location: Sunny Queensland..AUSTRALIA | G'day fellas.. Has anyone ever dealt with Collectors Auto Supply?.. They seem to have a LOT of desirable NOS parts listed for various Forward Look vehicles, yet despite my emails, haven't contacted me back yet regarding availability of the requested parts... Too good to be true??.. Dunno!. Glenn

Location: Under the X in Texas | I've done business with Jim up there a few times over the years when I couldn't find a part anywhere else. Yes, hard to get an email reply. Best to phone but from OZ not a good option either. The parts are what he says they are, mostly NOS, some rebuilt, some reproduction - all clearly labeled in his inventory list. I was always satisfied with what I bought and the way business was transacted. Prices can be high but supply and demand does that. Still beats dealing with Mitchell by a country mile.

Expert Posts: 1207 Location: Ponder, TX | I've bought from Collectors Auto Supply a couple of times. They are lacking a bit when it comes to communication and speed, but they've always come through with what they promised. As mentioned, the prices are pretty high, but they have a lot of parts you can't find anywhere else. I've also dealt with Len Dawson a few times and been satisfied every time.

When you buy from them, then they go and get it from the actual owner, mark it up in price to you.... usually 50 to 100%. They are a good source for knowing if a part is out there somewhere but if they show it available, then do some more looking and you may just find it at close to 1/2 of their price. I have bought from them several times and they are very reliable when it comes to getting the part to you. George

Location: Under the X in Texas | George, So if I read you right CAS has no inventory whatsoever?? But on the other hand, they must be absolutely fantastic at finding everything and anything because even you have bought from them several times and between you and your son and the number of cars y'all work on, I know you are GREAT at finding stuff. Well, business of any kind is about finding a niche and filling it. Apparently CAS does that very well, must spend a heckuva lot of time researching and so deserves the markup he charges if the hobby customer can't find it anywhere else. When we do have the time and contacts to find something (like using the FL list for help) we can beat his prices but when we can't find it or need it immediately (like restoration shops often do) we have to step up and pay the tabl Would that be how you look at it?

Expert ,, George Passed away July 28th 2021, He will be Missed Posts: 1295 Location: Twin Falls, Idaho | Wayne.... That is my understanding. Many times they have told me they will get it shipped out as soon as it comes in. ALso, you might note that they frequently need to make a call and then call you back with the info and price on the part. Sure, I buy from them when I can't find THEIR source but between my son and myself, we probably find that source 60% or more of the time and as I said, the price is almost always near 1/2 of theirs. I don't fault them for this as you are correct, the time spent looking for these parts is valuable. I do believe they also receive other's inventory lists either printed or digitally and work from those too. I would say they are the best source if you can't find the part on your own. George

Veteran Posts: 115 Location: Sunny Queensland..AUSTRALIA | Thanks Guys.. I suppose a 'Not negative' response is better than a 'Don't go there' any day!!. I understand the logistics about accumulating the resources of many different vendors into one site for the benefit of those of us that can't scrounge for those NOS bits we really want (@ 50% off). I would expect that the time expended by one individual would be worth something, surely!. 50%?, well maybe, if those of us on the other side of the world can't find the desired parts we want with the stroke of a keyboard.. While I'm at it, I'm REALLY envious of youse guys in the US who can drive a paltry 1000 miles to check out a good wrecking yard for as many great bits that you can 'pull' from a shell before it goes to the crushers. Over here in OZ, 1000 miles is an afternoon drive (with a sleepover & generally little reward @ the end).. BUT I DIVERSE. I'd happily put in an order to Collectors Auto Supply for the bits I've been searching for if I'd get a response, so I guess the lack of negative comments is a positive in itself.. We'll see how I go. Thanks again fellas. Glenn

Expert Posts: 3891 Location: Northen Virginia | Yes, expensive. I did an extensive research once for my Imperial and they where $400 when the other guy who carry the same part is $180, obviously is clear what was happening. But as you said Glenn, living overseas is a complete different situation, been there done that.

Member Posts: 20 | I recently bought a part to fix my brake booster that no one else had or was willing to sell to me. Did it cost me more? When they were the only ones that could get me the part I would say no. $35 dollar part compared to a $300 overhaul by the booster re-build thieves I would say I did alright. I will do business with them in the future. I called and was handled very professionally and they did what they said they would. John
