My 55 DeSoto is in a restoration shop that has fallen victim to hard economic times. They are closing. The body has been repaired, blasted and primed. The frame has been repaired and refinished. The car has been completely disassembled. Have any of you ever experienced this before? What advice would you give me about how to proceed? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Sorry to hear this.

I hope you have only paid for work already performed, and all parts were tagged and bagged for the next person that has to complete the work that was started. You'll need to find a qualified shop to complete the work, and most likely they will charge more, not knowing how the car came apart.

You may want to post this under the 'General Discussion heading, as more members read those threads often.

Grab all your stuff and evacuate it all fast! Otherwise, the opportunity will pass you by.

Yes, get all your stuff out!! A friend is restoring a '59 Dodge Custom Royal. The body shop he had doing the rust repairs went out of business, and he had to evacuate the premises post haste. You risk loosing your car and all the parts, unless you trust the owner, and make some kind of arrangements.

Remember Memory Lane Classic's??? Get your stuff out asap and run. I agree possibly hiring one of the better employee's there to possibly finish at your house garage. Good Luck.

ehm, this was 2 months ago.

But I do wonder if the original poster has managed to secure his car out of the shop safely.
