Currently I am having rocker panels fabricated for my 58 Plymouth Convertible and they are going to be as close to the originals as possible. I have a question concerning the inner reinforcements found only on convertibles, this is the 12 to 13 gauge metal panel in between the inner and outer rocker and I am wondering if it has the same profile as the outer rocker panel in the front area where the rocker curves, or does it stop with a straight cut? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Here is a section of a new rocker panel that was fabricated for and installed in a 56 Plymouth convertible. The 57-58 cannot have been very different. There are three full length pieces, all 14 gauge, the outer, the inner and special to convertible the Z-reinforcement. It spot welds between the outer and inner at top where the floor panels join. It also is spot welded between the outer and inner at the vertical seam that points down.

In the front, beginning at where the rear skirt of the front fender wraps under, the outer panel is stepped down with cuts or darts and re-welded. The Z profile in the inner reinforcement is flatted and spot welds to the inner rocker, tapering early to nothing. Reinforcing is unnecessary ahead of the A-pillar, door hinge post attachment.
