Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | I think in 1958 Chryslers swivel seats were not an option - right or wrong? Has anyone used a '59 swivel seat in a 58? I'm curious if they fit or not given the change in body construction from frame to unibody.

Location: Under the X in Texas | '59 was the first year for the swivel seat option. They are a bolt-in to a '57 or '58 flat floor car. They will not bolt in to a '57 power seat originally optioned car because in '57 they created couple inch deep recesses in the floor for the movement of the seat tracks. That mechanism was changed for '58 and as I recall all '58s are flat floors where the seats mount allowing use of the '59 seat mounting.

Expert Posts: 2290 Location: Eastern Iowa | If you're going to install 57-58 style satndard power seats, yes. These "cake/pie pans" as I like to call them, are very prone to rust out. Manual seats take the flat floor as do the swivel seats. My F has swivel seats and the floor is flat. My C and D with P/S both are depressed floor pan As am I when I cosider I haven't got them done yet!!! The 59's were a crossover year with many itens such as firewall and A/C system very similar to the 1960 models. The floor and swival seats were also in the 60-62's Dave S.

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | Crap....is it possible to convert power swivel seats to manual by changing tracks? I bought a PS setup for my 58 'assuming' it would fit. I'm not going to cut up the floor, though. Out of curiosity, were the factory floor stamped depressed or was it a factory 'cut and weld' job? Edited by GregCon 2012-02-09 11:33 AM

Expert Posts: 2290 Location: Eastern Iowa | They were factory stamped pieces This is what they looked like And this is what I had to do to fix it Edited by finsruskw 2012-02-09 6:34 PM (300C_floor_pan_002.jpg) (300C_floor_pan_003.jpg) (300C_floor_pan_007.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 300C_floor_pan_002.jpg (59KB - 241 downloads) 300C_floor_pan_003.jpg (65KB - 236 downloads) 300C_floor_pan_007.jpg (52KB - 224 downloads)

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | Thanks...that is what I envisioned - a cut and weld piece, similar to a 4 speed hump, rather than a 'one piece' floor pan with a specially pressed recess. The floor looks like it had a recessed rim, though. Do you think all floors had that feature, and the center was cut out if needed?

Expert Posts: 2290 Location: Eastern Iowa | Don't know, never had a close up look at a non-power seat floor pan. I suspect the big pieces were all stamped w/the hole and then either the P/S or non P/S pieces were insralled depending on whether or not the build sheet called for them. Dave S.

Expert Posts: 2524 Location: Houston | Thank you finruskw. So...no one has tried to swap seat tracks back and forth between manual and power seats?

Expert Posts: 4054 Location: Connecticut | The power seat setup changed for '59, such that a recess in the floor was no longer needed. So if you have '59 p/swivel seats, they should work in your non-power seat '58. Ron
