Hi All,

I'm posting from Montreal, looking for some advice on my Uncle's 1959 Imperial. I posted about this car a couple of years ago, and it has gone through a bit of work since then. It has been painted, the engine gone through, and is currently sitting in the interior/glass shop. My involvement in the project has been mainly parts sourcing. I have dealt with a couple of vendors - Bernbaum, and Pat Walsh. I actually purchased a "complete" door weather stripping kit, along with front and rear glass seals from Bernbaum about 6 months ago. The seals are way too thick, and are two piece. There's no way these seals will fit, especially with the chrome trim! Does anyone here know where I can get original style seals for this car? I am at my wit's end!

Pat Walsh sells a two part seal as well. It's probably the same thing that Bernbaum sells, and I don't want to purchase more useless parts for this car. I have also found this seal:

I'm not sure what to think about it. It seems that people will tell you what you want to hear in order to make a parts sale, and it's very discouraging. That's why I need advice from you guys!

Also, where can I find parts for the A/C system in this car?

Anyway, here are a couple of pictures showing how the car sits now. It hasn't changed much in the past year. The interior is on the way to completion, and I have to install the engine/transmission.

You might want to see what Gary Goers has to offer, he is a dedicated Chrysler Forward Look Specialist, download his catalog here http://chryslerclub.org/PDF%20files/GOERS.pdf

As far as A/C parts, try Wildcat Mopas Auto Wrecking http://www.wildcatmopars.com or Big-M Auto, http://www.bigmauto.com

I had the same problem with my quarter window weatherstrips on my 59 Imperial. I replaced the old ones with new ones from Gary Goers but they were too thick so my front window wouldn't roll all the way up. I ended up cutting the rubber so at least I could get the window up. I purchased a new pair from Bernbaum but haven't tried installing those yet.

Hi and welcome here! I used to live in Montreal (loved every minute of it!), and moved to Quebec City, so there are a couple of us from Quebec on this site.

Beautiful Imperial!

On my own car, the windshield and rear window gaskets were replaced with modern two-sections repro ones and I will change them again as soon as I can (they leak badly and the rear window mouldings had to be glued on to fit - it's not up to my standards). I have now sourced good original gaskets from a parts car, and I truly believe it is the best thing to do, if you can find them.

Thanks for the replies, guys!

We actually do have a potential parts car. It's another '59, an Imperial LeBaron that my uncle has owned for a few decades. It was part of the Queen of England's motorcade when she visited that year. It's very rusty, but not too far gone. We're tempted to use it as parts, but when the time comes to fix that one, we'll be up the creek without a paddle once more.

I'm honestly not too interested in Gary Goers. I know that he has a very good reputation, but my glass guy refuses any two part seal for this car's glass. I'm also not too keen on wait times. I understand why his business operates the way it does. I just don't want to have to deal with extended back-and-forth that just shouldn't happen in this day and age.

You could look under Steele and see if they have anything you could use. http://www.steelerubber.com/search?year=1959&make=chrysler&model=im...
