Hi,
have a 59 Plymouth fury with a 361 and 2 4 barrels. The only nmber I have been able to find on the engine block are 220f5712-5 along with a clock indicationg 6 and the D-N indicator pointing to N. no casting date or other stamped numbers. Any help on this ???? Trying to establish if it is or is not original to the car

Thanks

Tim

You need to look at the angled flat spot on the front of the block, right side, below the distributor, in front of the head. You may have to clean it off with sandpaper. If it is the original engine, it should be marked with IIRC an M36 or M361, This not only tells the year of the engine but size also.

Thought that was the casting date? '57-12-5, 6 o'clock, Night shift...Incorrect????
Indeed check the deck in front of the pass side cyl. head...

2205712 is the casting number for the 361 from '58-'66 (don't know how the f got in there), the dash 5 is a casting core mod number. N does mean night shift but the 6 isn't a clock number it's the number of "the pour" on that shift.

The engine number is on the right side of the cylinder block between the coil and distributor.
Number should start with M361 for a 59 engine.

Can you post some more info of this Fury?

The engine stamping number will only confirm the model year, engine size, and the sequential-manufacturing number of an
engine, but, it will not confirm whether 'your' engine had dual carbs, or not.

One BIG clue, that most cloned dual-carb cars (still-) have on them, is the passenger-side SINGLE-carb exhaust manifold, that
does NOT have a heat cross-over tube plumbed into a dedicated angled-backwards, elevated, 'boss' , on its upper-rear area.

The appearance and general bent-shape of the steel fuel line, running to the front carb, is also a potential major clue
on whether a car was built with one carb, or two.

Your car's IBM card will confirm its carburetor status on it.

Dual carbs for the 59 Plymouth were never an option.
Maybe dealer installed left overs from 58 but never from the factory
