I have a vendor that uses stainless steel to reproduce various metal parts like bumpers and moulding and they are interested in getting the measurements for these deflectors. They have remade bumpers for classic Mercedes Benz's and the finished product is outstanding.

Elite Veteran Posts: 1141 Location: Blackpool, United Kingdom. | Hi Mike, did not get anywhere due to cost of dies, think i only had about 3 people mail me about them, i have however made the moulds for these to make in fiberglass if worth while chroming them,or they could be wraped in chrome shrink, they would only be for decorative purpose though?maybe could be used on a daily driver to save originals getting damaged, Paul.

Wonder if there are any patent right considerations on copying a part like this or making a reasonable facsimile? Kanter makes a stainless 56(?) Dodge repro exhaust tip that is less than $100, so there must be a reason the 57-59 deflectors aren't being reproduced since even a reproduction would probably bring $200-$300 apiece for a 57-59. Same for the 57-8-9 door sill plates and the 2 door hardtop lenses for interior lights over each door... And what is with Sanderson apparently being such dunderheads for not offering a car version of their 315-325 hemi headers, when the street rod one's they already sell are 90% of the way there already. Paul, so is $300 pounds about $476 USD? Thought it used to be that a pound was worth slightly more than $2 USD, wasn't it??

Theres a lot more to making these, they are originaly made in 2 halves then welded together and chromed, the insert inside is pressed out of stainless, so in total there are 6 dies needed, 2 top 2 bottom and 2 for inside trim, gone are the days of the £=$2 its around, £=$1.6 at moment , £ = Euro 1.24, £ = SEK 10.73 Paul.

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | And the OEM price for a replacement deflector was....... .......$7.03 ; before y'all get slobbery over that price; that's about $85-$100 in today's money; these guys were not cheap, even when they were new. That's why one version of this deflector had a REMOVABLE bottom section, so that only that area needed to be replaced, when it got all rusty and deteriorated.
