Seems like tire size is forgotten unless those are avg speed/rpms.

Tire size is 9.00X14 which is New Yorker Wagon size. The speed values came from a GPS.

Did the same thing with my 55, found the speedo off about 10%, 65 read about 71 on speedo, the rpms were 2600, with 3.36 rear and 28.6 inch tires.

Hemidenis, Thanks for the speed/RPM chart. Those figures are pretty much what I would have expected them to be. Gotta love those long stroke eng's ! Jerry

I like this because it is a reminder that RPM's should always be slightly below the "Max Torque" so that we have
easy power to make it up the rising hill ahead, pass that ~ who is in front ( and can not maintain their speed ) or
a battling head wind.

The era Rear Axle Ratio's - Tire Diameter - Max Torque @ such and such RPM's was all aimed at the average
Rural Max Speeds of 55 MPH. They realized this could even be applied with out changing much as the High- way
Speeds went to 75 MPH on the Rural Free Ways.

I have one Flat Head Six Cylinder Vehicle that came with 3.5's and I use Cooper 215 x 75 x 15's. A finned V8
that came to me with the optional OEM 3.2's ( 2.93 is Standard ) and I use what was then on sale 235 x 75 x 15's .

Either way I still do a lot of 65 MPH Driving because of the era's Steering Tech.

Denis' numbers show why we want our distributors to reach full ignition advance at/prior-to/around 2500-3200 RPM.

His car has tall tires and a high gear ratio.

Most FWDLK'ers have rear gears of about 3.31-3.36-3.54 .
