Veteran Posts: 201 | A friend is buying a 60 New Yorker and said the sierial number tag is missing. Is there another location to find the serial number like stamped into the sub frame or something? Any help locating it would be great, thanks! Carl E.

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | I have not found one on my 60 plymouth, looked everywhere. Only thing I have is import papers with its number on it. There is a company called AGbackeast that can reproduce the tag, but obviously, you need the nuber first. Is there a way to find it through you licencing system?

Location: Under the X in Texas | The number will appear in two additional locations which are intended for insurance and law enforcement use. Being a unibody car, it is not on the front subframe. It is stamped into the firewall sheet metal on the lip of the heater core mounting, upper area, yes, the box has to be removed and the area cleaned of sealer to see it. Also the flange lip of the body at the top of the gas filler door will have it but it may be puttied and painted over.

Veteran Posts: 201 | Thanks! I figured there should be a second location in case the tag fell off or was stolen. I know my Edsels have it stamed in the frame as a second location. I'll pass this on and hope it helps him make the purchase! Carl E.

Expert Posts: 1819 Location: Vancouver, BC | Being a pre-1968 unibody Mopar, you will probably find the SON (Shipping Order Number) on the firewall, not the serial number. Of the pre-1968 unibodies, only the 1960-1964 big unibodies and the C bodies had a front subframe. The A and B bodies had the front section welded to the main body, which is why they had a removable "K" frame for the engine. On the A bodies the SON was stamped on the radiator crossmember, hidden by the antifreeze sticker.
