The Fel-Pro number for the TF gasket is TOS 18333. Autozone or O'Reilly's will have it.

Thanx guys. I was having trouble finding a listing for it. It probably won't fix my problem but worth a try as the fluid hasn't been changed for 20 years lol. It doesn't go into drive until it's warmed up. It can go into reverse right away while cold but no drive.

I think you will find that the trans has internal seal leaks, the direct clutch is usually the culprit.

If Reverse works OK but the forward gears are lazy the problem is in the front clutch; usually hardened/shrunk seals. An additive like Trans-X or Lucas will often soften the seals....cheaper and easier than an ovedhaul.

I've had good luck with trans-x before. Thanx for the advice. I assume that Type F fluid is good to use. Also any particular years in these transmission that I should look for a direct replacement core to rebuild?

I just used a B Block trans from a 61 Newport as a rebuild core for my 59 326 Coronet, direct fit. Most 8 cyl. cast iron TF's are interchangeable.

'57 Transmissioons are air cooled, while '58 went to water cooled units. The best possible combo is to use the '57 ventilated bellhousing and '57 finned converter in a '58-early '59 water cooled trans for maximum cooling without an auxilliary cooler being mounted. Mid '59-'61 used a different cable and adjuster set up, the transmissions will work, but you will then have to have a custom cable made up, which is not cheap.

So... Are the poly bellhousing patterns same as the big block patterns or do you mean something else by B block?

The 361 Chrys trans bolted right to the 326 bell housing and convertor.

Wow! Thats good news. I've got alotta B and RB stuff laying around. Even an older 413 with a different crank for a pushbutton trans. I thought I had read that a 360 was a direct swap but I'd rather use my RB stuff. Thanx
