I just found a.57 Plymouth abandoned at a body shop.. The owner tells me its a Fury. The body tag and vin are missing but it has all the holes for fury scripts and trim. Plus it was white. It is just a rolling frame and body with no engine, interior or trim. All the sheet metal is there but its pretty rusty. It was dropped off to be sand blasted, have the rust repaired and primed. I can get the car for next to nothing if I can find the vin so he can file the papers to sell it for labor and storage owed. Was the vin stamped any where else on the body or frame other than the drivers door jam? It's going to get squished and scrapped if I can't find a number on it. It is the only way he will sell it.

Thanks and wish me luck.

Somewhere on the frame is the engine number and possibly vin....but why can't he sell it to you for scrap price? At this point it's not a car anymore, just a paper weight. Like buying parts.

He says he doesn't want the liability. I don't know if he is worried about the other owner coming back one day or what but he won't budge. I think the guy dropped it off couldn't afford to do anything with it and eventualy sold the parts. It has been sitting for a few years.

I am both dissapionted to have found it and in awe. A friend said it was a 60 I could buy for nothing and I was thinking front trim and Aero wheel and then its a 57. To bad it is stripped. I am going back down in a week or two and plan on snapping some pics. If I can find a number I can get it for 250 bucks. I don't need it but just want to get it out of there. I'm sure I could sell it and make a little while finding it a home.

Without an engine...a rolling chassis...it IS an assemblage of parts.

I'd photograph the hulk and take it to my local DMV/MVD and ask them what they would require, for you to take legal ownership
of it, and what you'd need to do, to re-license it, once you got it fully safe and drivable...without a VIN tag on it.

In CA, the DMV can create a generic VIN for such a "car".

Your best bet is to part it out, as being/having real Fury parts.

Sorry, there is no VIN number on the frame. You might find a faint engine number (starting with FP31-) stamped top of the on the driver side frame, about where the front seat would be. The body must be off the frame to see the it. In my car the engine number was also stamped in the side of the frame in the driver side rear wheel arc, facing out.
Both of these were very faint - only partially readable after removing all the paint etc.
