Location: Bethlehem GA | I need a new rear end, my 60 Belvedere has a 3.31 in it. Its toast. I have a good 58 rear end with a 3.73. It is just a slant 6 auto. I don't know the tire hight but is is stock or very close to it. Is the 3.73 overkill for highway driving. Most of my running around is in town but I do hit the highway for shows and would like to be able to run with traffic which is about 80mph here. Some shows are out of state as well so she needs to have some highway manners. |

Location: Under the X in Texas | Today a 3.73 is too low geared for anything except around town from stoplight to stoplight. You will lose top speed and get worse mileage with a higher number. The 3.31 is really appropriate for your Slant and should be easy to find another. |

Location: bishop, ca | Yeah, and the 3.36:1 may be more common than the 3.31 guy; there's also a 3.18:1 gearset out there (still)...

From '57-'61 the V8 cars had the 8 3/4" rear end, 6-cyl. had the 8 1/4" rear end. Complete rear ends will interchange physically but they're not the same. |
