Thanks; those pics show a solid #3 condition car; $20K seems very fair for it.

Hey Guy's I now own it!!!! I was more than happy to pay $20,900 as the car was 2 hour's north of me in CT. I just arrived home with her about 3 hour's ago. You ready.... She has a terrible 30 yr old re-paint. She is solid with only 2 areas with minor Bubbling. No hole's, patches, panel's changed, gallon's of bondo(I used a magnet all over car), the floor's, trunk, quarter's, rocker's(Minor Bubbling, small area), Fender's ok, could use a Pass Fender IMO and this car run's like new. Also need's a Wheel Cylinder(leaking). The car also came with correct NEW in box, Convertible Top and rear Window. I was happily surprised.

Only thing.......Should I get the bucket of red paint ready?????......................................... Hell NO, not on this one. She will be correct again.

Well bought.

You ought to write to Hemmings thanking them for their write-down, allowing you to get it for a fair price, by possibly discouraging
other bidders on it.

Hey; your car has been featured in a magazine!

Stalin and Charles Manson were featured in lots of magazines too, as were Brad Pitt and

Is this supposed to be some sort of "look at me!" good thing ?

I appreciate your outlook on "my car being in a magazine Neil, however I really do not consider "Hemming's" worth reading. They grossly misrepresented this car which was not right. Personally who cares about Magazine's as long as you having cruising down the road.. Thats what its about for me!

"Puking icon" is a little harsh, in Re; Hemmings Classic cars.

In general, Hemmings Classic cars is very well written, altho their own "Muscle Machines" magazine is not well researched, and
I don't care to read it.

H.C.C. is not "My Classic Car" or "Car Crazy" (both of which certainly rate a puke, as they are info-mercials).

This car was sold, and turned, and now, fortunately, has landed in Joe's garage where it will be appreciated and well maintained.

Happy ending.

Well said Doc. Too many look at "the Bible" as Hemmings. Sorry, purist rag IMO.

(Sic): You meant: at Hemmings as "the Bible" perhaps?
Brent is referring to the exhibitionist tendency of some car owners, most prevalent in owners of TV-movie car clones.

And just what is wrong with a "purist rag", for those who like them... there's plenty of rod rags out there for those who don't... must the world conform to one narrow vision? Thought that was the whole point of a custom car. I like customs also, but prefer my personal cars stock. Isn't it a personal choice? There is room for both and no reason to disparage either of them.

HMN has been around since you were in diapers, and probably before, and has done a great deal for the hobby.
Clearly it's custom cars that are the bellybuttons of the car world these days... what's the ratio of stock to custom '32 Ford roadsters for example?, '49 Merc coupes? Try to find a stock one, good luck.

I was referring to seeing one's car in a magazine as some sort of accomplishment or
"look at me!" triumph.

Like the guy with the lighted case full of plastic trophies, ribbons, and dash plaques ...
... really ?

This is what it's all about ? (insert puking icon here)

I was trying to explain to one of my engineers (technical mind) that owning/driving a
car like ours (at least for me) is about the car and the road and the recreation of a lost
and forgotten experience on the American landscape. It has nothing to do with the driver
beyond said driver being able to enjoy it. When it becomes about getting attention for the
driver, then the whole point is lost and it goes from being a great experience to just being
another "look at me!" attention getting "chum", .... like guys with monster trucks, ... compensating
for some inadequacy.

I wish there was some way to roll back the clock and have everyone else just out driving
there finned cars rather than being the rare enthusiast behind the sole car out there. It kinda
corrupts the best intentions, or at least gives the appearance thereof. Add in the preponderance
of "look at me!" types in the old car hobby as a whole, and we all become suspect for just
being another tool trying to get attention for ourselves. The more distance I put between
myself and the red Corvette kind of guys, the better.

Obviously, I know what Doc was saying, as I agreed.

And just what is wrong with a "purist rag", for those who like them...First off, nothing...Cept when you use it as the "Bible" as far as pricing goes.

there's plenty of rod rags out there for those who don't... Never said there wasn't.

must the world conform to one narrow vision? Actually, that was just my point about Hemming's and pricing.

Thought that was the whole point of a custom car. I like customs also, but prefer my personal cars stock. Isn't it a personal choice? There is room for both and no reason to disparage either of them.Sure there is, but when you compare all to Hemmings as far as pricing, that kinda "Narrows" the field a little now don't it?I personally know people that wouldn't buy a convertible no matter how much of a smoking deal because they tend to like to stay DRY when it rains.

HMN has been around since you were in diapers, and probably before, and has done a great deal for the hobby.Possibly, but I would say Hemmings has done plenty for the overpricing of said cars more than helping out the "little guy", or the "Young Gun" getting his/her start in these cars. i mean, how can we pass this hobby down if all Hemmings says is they are worth a certain amount and people can't even get in on the ground floor because too many refer to it as "The Bible"?

Clearly it's custom cars that are the bellybuttons of the car world these days... what's the ratio of stock to custom '32 Ford roadsters for example?, '49 Merc coupes? Try to find a stock one, good luck.Yes, this is true, but here again,  everything '32 Ford, Stock doesn't bring the money when selling a STOCK '32 Ford Deuce Coupe. Add A/C, PS, PB, PW, and a leather interior, and you have a $40K "Street Rod"...THAT'S what it's about these days and has been since you were in diapers......M-O-N-E-Y./QUOTE]

Who said anything about convertibles? Who said anything about using Hemmings for pricing?? Where did that come from? Non sequitur maybe? Had plenty of 'verts, but I prefer 4 dr HTs - and you? Would you have a 4 dr?? Christine was not a 4 dr the last time I looked. So...love the car or the image? Equate everything Hemming says with "money" and pricing? Last time I looked it was OLD CARS WEEKLY not Hemmings who put out Price Guides - in fact I'd say the opposite, Hemmings is about love of old cars of all kinds. Well done rods bring a LOT more money than stockers nowadays, just look at auctions. Stockers cost more to restore properly most of the time, but don't bring the prices of rods that are all about "Look at Me" for the attention getting needy and TV-Movie wannabe cars. So do your thing, pal, but stop putting down "Purists" like it's some kind of sin.

First of all, "Christine" WAS a 4Dr if you bothered to read the book. Who are you kidding? This whole hobby is about "look-at-me"....Some (Like the Purists) seem to want to somehow "dismiss" this FACT of car culture. If we didn't have folks checking out our cars, there would be no pricing. Furthermore, this whole d@mn thread is about Hemmings and pricing of said Belvy Pricing straight from the Hemmings guide. Did you even READ the First post?

Thank God for Chaney "Dukeboy". Everybody is worrying about nothing. Who cares about TV/Movie Cars, Hemmings, original cars, purists, etc. As long as the person is having fun. Otherwise who cares.
