Elite Veteran Posts: 664 Location: Wales, Wisconsin | Has anyone used any aftermarket gauge sets in a 55-56 Plymouth and if so which manufacturer and sizes. I am converting to 12Volt and like the look of some of the white background gauges and just wanted to see if anyone else had done this before I buy. Thanks!!

I also think this issue was discussed on the HAMB thread about the 55-56 dodges and plymouths so you may want to try and search out that thread. If you want white gauges and want to stick with Mother Mopar, do some research on the 1956 Desoto gauges. They are white and should be 12v and they look like they are the same sizes. I have thought about going that direction myself.

Expert Posts: 1730 Location: Michigan | I used Stewart Warner gauges on my 55 Chrysler. They look closest to the stock gauges and period for the 50's. They have a huge selection to choose from. Best to download their catalog and then pick what style you want. I bought old units but found that only the mechanical oil pressure would work. The electronic tach gauge would not respond with my electronic dizzy. I tried all the resistor add ons and nothing worked. Got a new tach that looked like the old one with all new internals and it worked without adjustment. Had to get a Sun Chrome Cup and adapt it to work with the Stewart Warner gauge so I could mount it on my steering column. Steward Warner doesn't sell a chrome cup (go figure).

Found them mounted in a car that still had a windshield and they had no water inside. Hope they work.
