Where do I get the impression that I am the only guy that ever took a beautiful DeSoto Adventure to the drag strip?????
I took it to the drags only 4 times over a 10 year period and I won class trophies winner 3 out of the 4 times I drag raced it. I started drag racing in early 1957 and I never had a car that drew so much attention on the drag strip. Many guy were surprised to see Chrysler Corp. made a DeSoto with 2/4 bbl carbs as standard equipment.
Somewhere in my computer files I have photos of it on the drag strip, if I find them I will post a few.

Location: Parts Unknown | Did a little light-to-light racing for fun with the 60, but never took it to the track.
Surprised the hell out of the driver of a 69-70 SS 396 Nova one time when that
ugly old DeSoto beat him to the end of his lane.

Location: Jamaica Plain, MA | I used to race my 59 Firedome for laughs in Indiana. It had a 413 and shift kit. About all I did to it. It smoked Novas and Mustangs pretty good. As I recall, I got smoked by a Nissan 340 Z or whatever they were called. I decided to be kinder to it after that. Jeff fast59DeSoto has it now. |
