Location: North Australia | this one has been on here before. I find it strange that a car like this is traded/sold so frequently. Steve. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1957-DESOTO-FIREFLITE-CONVERTIBLE-/1...

Location: Parts Unknown | Let's review, shall we ? ============================================= This stunning restored Desoto Fireflight Convertible is a well known car having been in several major collections over the last ten years. It was fully restored by legendary restorer Ken Brody in the early 2000's. It was then sold to respected Maserati collector Alfredo Brener of Houston Texas. There it resided in his collection on static display until 2010. Starting in 2010, it has been on museum display and in climate controlled storage. The car underwent a comprehensive detailing in 2011 including paint work, chrome, engine bay detailing, new top and underside detailing. Since then, the car has driven all of four miles onto and off of trailers for various shows and events. The car is fully show ready with all correct Adventurer components including engine, dual quads, trim, interior, carpeting, and options. Finding a car of this caliber is not easy and the cost of restoring one to this level would be into the six figure range for even the most dollar-concious restorers. Here is your chance to acquire one of the best extant that is turn key show ready and fully sorted for reliability and ready to be enjoyed at a moments notice. ================================================ OK, first of all, it is not restored. It is a clone Adventurer. There is a difference, especially at this price. Legendary restorer, static and museum display, and then it required engine bay, paint, chrome, and underside detailing ? Why ? Fully show ready ? What does that mean ? I see total sh!t heaps at shows. They are "show ready" too. This car has all the INCORRECT Adventurer components to make a Fireflite look like an Adventurer ... ... but it's "show ready" !!!! Sad, that this great car is being so bloatedly represented. A car like this needs no puffery. It's just the class of person whom it has unfortunately come under the influence of. Hell, if it checked out to be an original Fireflite in any color but red, I'd drive the wheels off it as is and give it a proper restoration when I wore it out. Of course, that would be AFTER I either stole it or discovered I had a trust fund out there !

Probably why it has changed hands so many times. Even a car restored to that level becomes a used car once you start using it for what it was meant for. The value level of it really cuts down on the potential buyers. For most of us the pleasure in the car is driving it, but by doing so will effect the value in a negative way. How long can one afford to invest that much in a vehicle that sits in a glass case and just gets looked at. Another thing I wonder about..... States the car has 4 miles on it and is fully sorted out.....? I've built a lot of cars and have never had one fully sorted out in 4 miles. LOL.

Location: Parts Unknown | There was a Spruce Green (I think that was the color name ?) 300c convertible running around the Seattle area 25 years ago. Naturally, it had the tan leather interior, and I cannot remember the top color, but it wasn't green. It was very pretty in that color. That poor NY'er is SO dammed green, it is distracting ! Like too much chocolate, at some point it becomes overwhelming. I am afraid I'd have to put a black top on it and some other color interior if it were mine. What a crown jewel of the Forward Look though !

Location: Parts Unknown | That makes me think of the inane question people always ask ..... how many miles does it have on it ? For those of us that care for our cars, mileage is utterly irrelevant. It is all about maintenance. But the average person is so conditioned to think in terms of miles. Edited by Doctor DeSoto 2013-05-25 8:41 AM

That kind of money would buy four really nice 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertibles, which are much easier to sell.

Location: Parts Unknown | Remember when a few vocal people on this list were cheering the Barrett-Jackson sensation of hyping prices on our cars ? They said the FL cars "were FINALLY getting the 'respect' they deserved". The reality is it caught the attention of the over-monied look-at-me crowd, and now most of us are priced out of our own hobby. At least if we want a car like this one.
