Are you noticing a big difference? I did my car by hand and I now wonder if I should have used a buffer.

Be careful with the buffing side of things

Most compounds used with buffers are abrasive and make the shine by cutting the paint down a little and making it flat, so your loosing paint.

The normal hand polish is a paint filler and fills the little rough bits in the paint to make the shine.

Both are fine, the machine cutters last longer, but with regular use, you will have a very shiny silver/metalic car

My dad is using a liquid type . He is doing this to get rid of the haze and bring the shine back.

Car looks real good, it's all one color, I thought these cars were two tone?

I also have a '61 Fury, red on top and white on the sides.

Is your '61 fury a 2dr or 4dr? Does it have these options ? PS, PS and AC mine has those but the AC was added on. The red car replaced the black 1961 fury I had because it was destroyed in a garage fire back in January.
The new garage was rebuilt and it is metal
Do you have any photos of your '61 and would you please post them here ?
The cars also came 2 tones but you needed to order it that way from the factory. It is also a shame there are not very many of these left.

Aside from the 2 tone, like your car Steph. There was a "Sport tone" option that was offered later in the 61 production run. It was a second color from the belt line up. I plan on doing my 61 that way.

On the OEM paint, you want to be a little careful when polishing it, because there is only so much pigment-particles remaining
in its enamel paint, and anytime that a polishing produces a color-residue on your 'rag', you have removed some of its pigment.

An OEM paint that stays cloudy or semi-opaque after polishing has lost its pigments and can not be renovated.

Turtle Wax sold (still available on the 'Pay) a stain, in a polish-like form, called "Color Back", which does provide some 'color' to
worn out non-clear-coat paint.

You have to wear plastic gloves to apply it, and it comes in a 'rainbow' of basic colors.

I have not sent that off yet. I need to save the money for that . My dad is checking things over on the car right now. The radiator needs to be rerodded . After I have done what needs to be done I will take it to acouple of cruise in and car shows.
Then in the winter time the restoration starts.

Thanks for the advice but the car will be restored and repainted . I know the car was repainted 1 time but I do not know how long ago. This is going to be its 3rd paint job . I will be going back close to the original color and it will have a clear coat on it too. I will post photos during the restoration.

She is looking pretty good. Neil is correct be careful anytime you buff a vehicle you are taking material off. If the car was repainted in a single stage you have less material to work with.

If your going to repaint in the future go Base/Clear easier to maintain and will last 10 times longer....

What compounds and polish are you using???? In my experience 3M is the good but very expensive. If your on a budget Use the CarBrite Black Pearl line, its just as good as 3M if not better for less $$$.

Costs nothing more than time to do a frame off, because it just means that you can clean and paint things better.

Only costs more if your paying someone to do it for you (time is money) or you find something that needs to be fixed (which would need to be fixed anyway).

As its a uni bobody car, there is only a subframe, so its not like the full frame cars, its actually quite easy

Thank you but I have never used a buffer before and I will not touch 1 unless I am properly trained to use 1. The car is getting a face lift but I am taking a break from it for a while.
