To me, that suicide knob looks kind of "yellow" - my guess; it's recently fabricated

Can anybody please tell me why this thing is called "suicide knob"?
It is illegal to have this in Germany except for disabled people. I never knew why.

As far as I remember, some accidents occurred here in Sweden due to jacket and or cloths got stuck on the knob with the result that the driver ditched the car. If you don't have a power steering a bump steer could smack your hand as well.

I would never mount one, way too risky and I find them kind of ugly
