Subject: Two platform vs. 3 platform brake shoes

Location: 25 miles NE of Pittsburgh, PA		Trying to locate some wheel cylinders for my 1960 Plymouth. Parts stores want to
know if car is equipped with 3 platform or 2 platform brake shoes. I understand this
would be necessary info if I wanted to replace shoes, but the wheel cylinders are centrally
located between the shoes. Why would # of shoe platforms matter?

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island		As I recall it, the slot in the 2 platform (early) cylinders are not so wide as the 3 platform cylinders. I guess that it would be possible to machine up the slot....

Location: Oley, PA		In this filmstrip, "Tech" explains to us the difference between brakes. The slot width for wheel cyl mounting on the 3-platorm design is wider (around 2:30 in the video) than the earlier design.

From what I know, the 1960 models should all have the 3-platform design.

The changeover from 2pf to 3pf brakes was in Dec. '58. So all 60 Chrysler corp vehicles had 3pf brakes.
