Location: The Mile High City | Nifty 4-door hardtop! More doors, more fun! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dodge-Other-Base-/251462868494?ssPageName=A... have a 1958 Dodge Custom Royal 4 DR Hardtop up for auction w/reserve. Make sure you look at pictures as they are part of this description. This car is 56 years old, not prestine, but it is in great condition for its age. It has its original 350 4 Barrel engine. The mileage is not original miles. This car runs and drives smooth. The winning bidder will receive a GA Bill of Sale, because GA does not title older vehicles. This is a nice car, but does need new paint outside and in because of surface rust. There is also some pitting. Whoever had it before did an amateur job. The interior has been newly upholstered a year or two ago, somebody has scratched the #24 in the seat behind the driver side. Want to see more pictures, email me through ebay and I will send. There will be a non-refundable $500.00 deposit required within the first 24 hours after auction ends, so ask questions and come see the car in advance. Please call Don with any questions and to make an appointment to see the car 912-7two9-7002 7am-5pm or 904-6one2-3343 6pm-9pm. Location: The Mile High City | The interior is pretty slip-shod, but this car has a bundle of really neat options and the trunk pan looks really good, which may be a good sign for minimal rust to the body and frame. Depending on price, this could be a neat car. I have not seen this script placement on a saddle style two-tone before (like a '57). The steering wheel looks very nice and may be an indication of the original color. The original headliner is in excellent condition. I am going to take a wild guess that this was originally a sand and beige car - or perhaps beige and eggshell. Edited by Lancer Mike 2014-02-28 1:41 PM

Location: The Mile High City | I asked the seller to post a photo of the data tag and voila! 4XXN - eggshell and sand! This car looks like it might have been in pretty good shape before the respray. It does not look like they saved the old seat covers under the new. (44.jpg) (45.jpg) Attachments ---------------- 44.jpg (102KB - 53 downloads) 45.jpg (159KB - 55 downloads)

They painted over the push buttons; that's a new 'low', in keeping with the masking job they did on the door windlace. Nicely optioned car (originally) "Saddle 2-Tone" with Eggshell across the roof & lower; Sand Metallic across its middle & fins. Edited by d500neil 2014-02-28 6:05 PM

Location: The Mile High City | Thanks, Neil: I should have posted the tag in the VIN discussion board. Have you ever seen such a placement of the Custom Royal script on a '58? I think this car was really nice before the "insensitive" respray and hap hazard revisioning of the interior. Still, for the right price, I would be very proud to own and drive this one!

Item discription says Whoever had it before did an amateur job well he got that bit right paint over the pushbuttons wonder what else there may be behind the paint? .............

Expert 5K+ Posts: 8445 Location: Perth Australia | Dont particularly mind the interior myself, but never can understand the reluctance to undo a few screws and pop a few trims off when painting. So much better paint finish and probably faster than masking (poorly done in this case) these items up

Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | This car definitely has possibilities for a proper restoration, but the installation of 57 nameplates, and the paint job and the interior doesn't auger well for the rest of the car's condition, as Andy mentions, above. A 4-door hardtop is a rare survivor-find, but this car would have to be bought for a 'right' price, by a dedicated restorer. Its headliner is a major-positive item. Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | The headliner, and the fact that those white plastic headliner bows are good - they're super fragile and impossible to find, the same ones were on my '58 'Sweep. Also that sort of random pattern on the headliner (painted/printed on?) would be near impossible to duplicate should the headliner need to be replaced or restored. Neil, wouldn't a CRL have had the stainless headliner bows? The white plastic was usually on the BOL models I thought. Edited by firedome 2014-03-03 11:50 AM

Location: The Mile High City | The ivory plastic headliner bows were usually fitted to the non-accoustifoam headliners across the board. I had a Coronet with the accoustifoam headliner and it had the chrome colored plastic bows. Then there are the Regals - copper colored plastic headliner bows with accoustifoam (?). The scripts are 1958 issue and I dug back into the archives and found a similar placement on this saddle two-tone car. Perhaps with a saddle or a spring special, the Coronet and Royal scripts were close to the front door UNDER the trim. With a saddle or a spring special, the Custom Royal scripts could be at the front of the fender ABOVE the trim?
