Location: The Mile High City | Holy cow! Now, it doesn't usually snow like that in Arizona. If this isn't Lloyd Groshong's car, then it is a new find not listed in the NDC registry. This fellow has a lot of fantastic forward lookers! This has got to be Bo Malefors. I have heard tale about a car like this in Fairbanks Alaska. Blue with a black top. A fellow's uncle owned it and passed recently. He said in Fairbanks, parts were not readily available. The old De Soto's water pump gave out and it sat. But this one looks more parted-out than I expected from the tale told to me. Maybe it is Groshong's? Maybe it is the mysterious Fairbanks car? Maybe it is neither? It looks a LOT like that Firedome that went from Jeff Nichols to Max Sokolov... hard to tell, but I don't see holes for the Fireflite trim buttons. I can't read the speedometer script. Location: Parts Unknown | If memory serves, Groshong's car is a very flatline TAN with white color combo, so this is likely a new find. I am confused about all the color I am seeing .... red dash, a very tired blue-grey and white over a soft yellow-green ? All these colors did not come from the same car. Wonder what the background is ? As I always say, ... for every one known in the hobby, there are likely that many more still hiding in barns and garages out there somewhere.

Location: North Australia | Probably enough parts on the Coupe and convertible to rebuild the sedan? Just joking, all 3 need a new home. Too few of these ugly old tubs left on the road. Steve.

Expert Posts: 1384 Location: Ocala, Florida | Turns out I have had photos of this car for awhile now. Wrongly labeled as a Fire Dome in my files. Here it is from its original resting area in (if memory serves) New York. These are photos a friend of a friend sent me a few years ago. I would want to see it up close and in person before plunking down that much. If the price includes the two-door hardtop and you basically had a complete convertible between them, maybe it would be a leap-before-you-look deal, but somehow I doubt that price includes the hardtop.

I thought Bo had a very good description - you get an Arizona-fried interior, but you also get Arizona-dry body and pot metal. Too bad it doesn't have the original hood. $32,000 for the convertible with the hardtop Edited by Lancer Mike 2014-07-17 6:47 PM

Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Not really a bad price, if you want a balls deep project. At least one is now available, after that maybe no more for a long time. 519 made. I have 2 project cars that are at the top of my list, a senior series 58 Desoto vert being the other. But no more for me. The other 58 Max had for sale was this one. Expert Posts: 2996 Location: Sept. 1958 | Ok, this may be a little off topic, but since mentioning Bo, here's his 58 Dodge CRL SS, apparently someone had bought it from him if he'd convert it to a 59 so he had 59 quarter panels on it and modified the firewall to look like a 59. Has since changed it back, because that deal fell apart. (image.jpg) Attachments ---------------- image.jpg (167KB - 115 downloads)

Looks like it has not been very well taken care of. Hmmm ...

Still, one of about a dozen examples known to survive. Mikey, how many Dome ragtops are you tracking these days ? A guy could locate fifty 300c ragtops for sale before another 58 DeSoto like this comes along. Tell me which one is more rare, Mr. Smarteepants.

Location: The Mile High City | Domes in the US? I can just about count them on one hand. Elsewhere? You hardly need more than two hands to count all I know of. Like you said though, there are more out there. Max did a pretty thorough search a few years ago and bought three (one had already been exported - turned out to be the one he kept)! Matt, thank you for the photo of Max's yellow Firedome - that's the first picture of it I have seen. He told me that one came from L.A. It looks pretty stripped-out at this point, but still very doable. If I were choosing between the two, I would definitely want the blue/gray! Doc, did you ever find out what happened to Alan Faltus' Firedome? Did it stay in the US or go overseas? Edited by Lancer Mike 2014-07-18 12:52 AM

Expert Posts: 3155 Location: NY & VT | I saw the blue Max/Bo DeS convert at Jeff's place after he found it and before Max bought it... it was rougher than anything I'd want to get involved with, or I'd have found some way to have it.
