Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | If it's the OEM spare, there should be no wear on its tread, and maybe the mold nubbies should still be sticking out of it. My car had its OEM tires rotated, so that, by 1980, one of its road wheels had previously been rotated into the trunk. That tire remains there, today. Custom Super Cushions are the expensive Nylon cord tires. This is H.'s OEM Goodyear Custom Super Cushion tire; it only says "Goodyear" on its white wall area; wonder why Goodyear didn't want to advertise it, better? H's original owner ran his tires slightly over-inflated (yea!); note the slight wear around the center of the tire's tread... It's also got slight edge wear, from its toe-in alignment. Posts: 19146 Location: bishop, ca | This is obviously not a Goodyear, but this very-vintage tire was seen in a 1950(?) Plymouth Business Coupe. This tire has obviously never been put onto the road... Extreme Veteran Posts: 531 Location: Park Hills, KY | Well, truth be told, my broadcast sheet has SPEC ORDER written on it and the tires are listed as special order 8.50 x 14, as this tire is. . Guess this would make it original, though it looks to have wear on the wide white side, but not the tread. Anyone know how to decode the date code on goodyears? | ||

The last year that I have tire codes for is 1958; 5 Rayon 8.50 x 14" tires have the code 1 [five Rayon] 5 [Whitewall 8.50x14"] : "15" Maybe your car was 'supposed' to have 15" wheels, but, was Special Ordered in the 14" size, and, so, got the Spl. Ord. number "999" for them? Let's see your car's tread appearance! I still don't know why the "oversize" (optional; 8.00 would have been standard size?) 8.50 series tires would warrant the "999" code, instead of "15" to identify them.
