As older Big 3 cars go, the only ones with automatics worth owning in this period are Mopars that have contemporary performance. Accelerates briskly through the well adjusted Torqueflite to cruise 80-85 mph anywhere you want to go. It runs and sounds GREAT! In the family since 2000, bought at auction for $10k, dad spent $12k on it, I spent $2.5k on it, notably and recently with rebuilding the Torqueflite trans. Most everything works including the rear defroster, AC, and every single light bulb. The Perfect Circle cruise control has been bypassed and the electric seat is stuck but the motor works. Rear main has a drip, not bad at all. Has been Ziebart rustproofed when new, evident in the undercarriage photos, there was a long term moisture problem in the trunk under the Ziebart coating, has been recently repaired, gas tank sending unit replaced and cleaned, all brightwork is excellent with replated bumpers. There is NO OTHER RUST or bondo under the decent repaint. Look down inside each door there is NOTHING to see besides DeSoto and Ziebart. Dual stainless exhaust, new manifold studs required head removal, original starter and generator rebuilt, Michelin tires, new brakes.
I get more comments driving this car than you can imagine. The 4 door sedan body does not take away from the lines of the car with its fins that begin in the front doors. It has dual outside mirrors and the left is remote operated. The carpet is original and has a bad spot under the RF and LR floormats. 2 sets of keys, spare, jack, handle/wrench, Michigan title, 15 yrs records, MoPar parts manual and factory service manual. I have weatherproofed it so there are no leaks if by chance you are caught in the rain, the trunk and carpets are bone dry, however the next dollars to spend on it would be removing the seats and carpet and replacing the 'wind lace' and door gaskets and carpet and doodling with the electric seat. I remember the climate control will not switch from 'heat' to 'defrost', has not been a problem I twist the dash top vent toward the glass works ok.
